Default Dou you think DH is crazy? He talks to the dog.

OK, Heres the thing. My DH talks to the dog, but then so do I. But I don't answer in "doggy" voice back for the dog. I listen with my heart, I follow clues and understand all the different sighs for different needs or wants, but I Don't literally speack back to myself for him.Definately think some serious empty nest going on here for last 7 yrs or so.
Does anyone else do this ? Is it common? I don't really think he's crazy.

I always talk to my dog, I work the night shift so he's home alone with me all day. He's a wonderful companion and I think he really responds to my talking. It definately is silly, I get looks from my fiance' often for talking to and speaking for my dog, but I love it, and so does the pup!!

If that's crazy, my wife and I are both crazy. As are my parents. And my in-laws.

It's pretty common, I think.

I talk for my dog to my DH, sort of voicing what it looks like he's thinking. He does the same thing to me. I don't generally hold a one sided conversation with myself playing my role and the dog's role, I don't think, but now I'll have to pay more attention haha!

Two dogs and two cats in my household. We definitely talk to them, we politely ask them to leave the room when we are putting the baby to bed and thank them when they do. lol there is a documentary http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/secret-life-dog/ that I watched recently that talks a bit about dogs ability to read our faces and follow our verbal directions.

Not only do hubby and I both "talk for" the cat, we've created a whole backstory for her.

You see, she's not an earth cat. She's a scout from an advanced feline civilization on another planet, and her job is to spy on us Earthers to prepare her superiors for invasion.

We've determined that she's quite thin for a cat of her planet (she weighs almost 20 lbs) and that apparently pigs are mouse-sized on her planet and come pre-flavored with hickory-smoke flavoring (because cats on her planet would be too lazy to actually take the time to smoke their pork).

Donuts are also quite an earth delicacy.

If we behave ourselves, and treat her very, very well - our lives will be spared and we will be able to continue our lives as her houseslaves (as we are now). However, if we displease her, she won't be able to guarantee our safety when the feline overlords take over the planet.

Crazy? I hope so. Sanity is so passe.

Bwah ha ha, Colleen! I've often said one of my dogs is an alien from another planet here to spy on us.

Hahahaha! Your story made me laugh also because I have joked that my cat is an alien spy. If you pull their ears back a little and look at their faces, they look a lot like the aliens from the movie "Independence Day".

LOL! And I thought I was the only one to do that! ChubChub (our extraterrestrial kitty) LOOOOOOVES to have her temples rubbed from behind her head (my thumb and pinky drawing her eyes back as you describe - giving her a bit of a "face lift" expression as I pull on my fingers to draw her eyes back).

She'll let you do that ALL DAY, that and ear rubbies, especially ear cleanings - she absolutely adores getting her ears cleaned (with a damp cloth around my finger) - but she wan'ts me to did "deep" and she's acturally force my finger deeper by leaning her head into my hand - I'm always afraid she'll push too strongly and I'll break an eardrum or something. My hubby says he's always waiting to see the cloth come out the opposite ear.

D'oh! I caught myself having a two sided conversation with my cat last night. Apparently it's habitual and I haven't been noticing I've been doing it. *face palm*

Oh yeah, I talk to both my cats and my neighbor's two dogs. My cats are brother and sister. The dogs are their cousins. And then when my neighbor and I are together with both dogs or cats, then it's just a freefore all. I travel for work and like to look on my cell phone at their photos when I am missing home.
