Default SBD Chat - Thursday, May 24

Good morning. Another up with the birds morning which is just as well as it's going to be a scorcher again. What happened to Mellow May? It's just as well that I'm up now because I am going to get in some gardening before it really heats up. I made it to town to the garden centre yesterday and bought more plants for the Village plus some things for me! (I'm not sure I really need 18 tomato plants but ...

No appointments on the calendar except for a Fair Board meeting tonight. Strange to think that the Fair will open two months from today! After a stint gardening, I intend to turn on the AC and spend some peaceful time machine quilting - the last quilt for VQC that am going to do until fall! I intend to have FUN this summer and do my own sewing.

Just hung some lace curtains out on the line and the air is lovely! My Mock Orange is in bloom and scenting the air. Paul Newman and I are going to sit on the back deck and watch the rest of the sunrise. Then I'll give him his To Do List!

What's on your To Do List today? Come and sip and chat.

Good morning Ruth and all other wonderful supportive Beach ladies I just went and read everyone's posts from yesterday. Ruth, that was a touching story about the thankful lady and I hope you had fun in Brattleboro, CyndiM!

Been busy with my first week(s) at summer job, loving it. And been doing very well with not eating the desserts I'm producing, yay! Been holding at 142 for a couple weeks and I still can't get used to that number.

Today I ride my motorcycle to the mechanic, wander around town for a couple hours, and come back to new front and rear tires, front and rear brakes, and a fresh synthetic oil change. I'll just sign my paycheck over, lol. But oh-so-necessary.

Absolutely loving the early light and the birds yakkin out there at 5 a.m. Once I get the deck the way I want it (cleaned off, flowers in planters, strings of tiny white lights) I'll have my coffee and computer out there in the mornings.

have a great day

Good morning chicks!

Ruth - sounds like a quiet day for you. I can't believe you're turning on the AC!!

Holly - (I keep wanting to write "cupcake") I imagine SBD is fantastic for helping you with your job and craving all that bad food!! I looooove pastries, but they are so much easier to resist when I eat SBD.

I couldn't sleep after DH used the potty before 5, so I finally decided to do something productive and took the pup on a run. She was THRILLED, lots of rabbits that early!! (but she can't chase them, oh darned it) It felt great, I suppose that's the first of many early AM with the hot weather coming. It does feel great to get it out of the way.

Otherwise, I'm meeting a friend for breakfast (and I'm ready to resist the best pancakes in the world at Waffle Shoppe!), then work all day. DH might run to a state park next to a rail-to-trail to see if we can snag a non-reservable campsite for the weekend. Wouldn't that be great?!?

I'm cooling off...almost time for coffee!!

Good morning...Holly so glad to see you are back today. Your deck sounds lovely and hey safety comes first especially with a motorcycle. You rock!!! Awesome job maintaining!!

Cannot wait to start my holiday weekend on Sunday. We are still quite humid and dreary. Maybe by Sunday we will have sun. The garden is growing wildly and needs a serious weeding.

Work today will squeeze in a ride during lunch. Calling it quits early today as my son has a dr appointment. Made whole wheat dough for a grilled chicken pizza tonight. Used the same recipe as last time, but this dough seems different. Not sure why unless I measured wrong, which is a possibility. If it is too difficult to work with, there are plenty of stand bys in the fridge.

Ruth enjoy your fragrant morning and quilting later

TwynnB hope your DH scores a campsite

Good morning!

Off to yoga today, then work this afternoon. Since I've been off for a week, it will take me a while to re-orient since they move everything around so often.

My oldest finally heard from his relocation specialist yesterday (after trying to reach her for 3 weeks) and turns out they will ship a container, not pay for a uhaul. So the good news is we don't have to drive out with a truck or trailer. But the bad news is that they can't deliver his stuff until after we've been there several days meaning I need to ask for even more time off work and we'll be stuck in a furniture-free apartment for days And it also means we leave the teen HOME ALONE for over a week. Scary thought.

Have a great day, everyone.

Paul Newman's, of course.

Ruth, sounds like you have a peaceful afternoon planned. It's hot enough here to make us start thinking about the air conditioner, too. But so far the ceiling fans are keeping the house comfortable.

Holly, listening to the birds chirping and greeting the new day is one of my favorite things about this time of year. Jake's car is in the shop and we're waiting to hear how much $$$ it's going to cost to get it back, but like you said, so neccessary! I'm glad you love your summer job, and kudos to you for avoiding all the sugary temptations!

Tammy, wow, you are awesome to get out and run at the break of dawn! Did your DS make his orange belt?

My last day of work for the week, and it's payday, and I'm looking at a 4 day weekend!

Good morning The humidity is here too and the sun is missing. Hope it shows up today.

Got some really nice news yesterday. They offered me that job I interviewed for. I'm surprised and happy to know I could pull off an interview good enough to get an offer. After some serious thought I realized the job would be a bad idea for me right now. Working 40 hours a week with families that have either lost custody of their kids or are at high risk of doing so would be emotionally challenging at any time. Trying to do it now would be a bad idea for me. Either the families will get short changed or, more likely, I will. It's scary to make this decision because I really need the income and benefits, but I also need to just get through the next few months and get back on my feet. So it's more shifts at the video store (any good rental suggestions? I get freebies) and keep cranking those resumes out. I've got a couple out for jobs that would be much less emotionally draining but are closer to my field. I've also got an application in at the Co-op to work in the deli. I'm flexible

Today I'm off to my first shift alone at the store They sell convenience store stuff, gas, lottery tickets, cigarettes, and beer and wine and rent videos and games. There are 5 different registers for the different products. Hope it's a slow morning but it's gas sale day before a holiday weekend. More shifts over the weekend then I'm covering for a regular employees vacation the next two weeks. That should keep me busy. This weekend the garden goes in, even if it's 90 and I have to do it in the afternoon! It's time.

I splurged and bought some portabello caps. I'm going to make myself some kind of eggs benedict like thing. It looks good in my head, hope it tastes good!

ETA - the mushroom egg thing was pretty darned good.

Cottage - DS lost his priviledge of going to class for being evil. THe motivation didn't work! Maybe next week

Cyndi - Princess Bride, Silence of the Lambs, and I remember "Being John Malcovhic" being so twisted it was cool...so you should appreciate that!

Princess Bride is one of my absolute favorites. We regularly quote lines from that around here

forgot to mention I can't handle any sort of graphic violence. I'm a big wimp.

Good morning,

I have a couple of minutes before the 8 a.m. call so figured I would hop on. I am dragging this morning DD2 still is running a fever and last night her cough kept me up all night trying to get her comfortable to sleep. I am looking forward to a 3 day weekend to sleep in some.

Cyndi congratulations on being offered the job and also realizing that it would not be the best position for you.

Cottage enjoy your 4 day weekend

Twynn yeah for early morning run

Karen- no furniture for a couple of days will be interesting for ya'll and yes a week alone for the teenagers is always scary, when we go off I am always afraid of what I might be coming home to.

Holly good for you taken care of maintenance- it's a necessary evil.

Jennifer and Ruth- enjoy your days

Have a great day everyone

Good Morning

After some managed insomnia (1030pm-1230am) I was able to sleep until 530. We're up and it's a beautiful day. We got lots of rain and now it's bright, sunny and green.

Today is to Denver for moms eye appt and some chores inbetween. Kirk and Bing are going, too.

Since we got home, I've been making the same meal 3 nights in a row. I picked a favorite (bison burgers) for the first 3 and it worked really well. I'm thinking the next 3 will be salmon we brought back. It's been a really helpful strategy for me since I've been working and my stuff was still not unpacked/put away.

DH is calling....

Have a great day everyone!

PS-Linda and Holly, I feel your wallet pain. Our truck needed repair in Alaska AND we then needed a rental for a week which together approached $1000.

Cyndi, you didn't miss the pics, I just couldn't post them from AK (no net) and now I'm running too many directions. Ouch. I may still work on it.

everyone else!

Good morning!

Trying hard to put on a happy face. My hormones are not playing nice so far today. This too shall pass.
Ruth-Enjoy Paul and your peaceful sewing day.

Vermont-It's so nice to hear of someone who truly enjoys their job. Hopefully the repair bill will not take the whole paycheck!

Twynn-Glad you and the pup enjoyed the run. Enjoy your breakfast and hopefully your DS will earn that orange belt. Good for you for sticking to your guns. It's a lot easier to set the rules when they're young. By the time they're teenagers, it's too late.

Jekel-I too am looking forward for this long weekend. I hope your dough works for you tonight. I love homemade pizza.

Waisting Time-I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your job! I have moved one of my daughters more times than I care to remember. I'm sure your son will be fine home alone. You may come home to a lot of dirty dishes in the sink though!

Cottage-Enjoy that 4 day weekend! I used to nanny full-time years ago. You seem to have found a very good family and very sweet girls. How long have you worked for them?

Cyndi-I have just been reading through previous posts, and am very saddened to hear about Julie. My heart goes out to you. I think you have to take your time and care for yourself. You'll know when the time is right to make the bigger decisions. Glad to hear the mushroom and egg combo was a success!

Good morning all! Sitting here with coffee and the remnants of a tweaked muffin in a minute.
Ruth - from yesterday - Why don't they allow you to hug the residents? I do a communion service at a local nursing home once a month and make sure to lay both hands on as a comfort and a blessing. Touch is SO important!
Twynn, Cyndi - I can't believe it. My second Princess Bride reference in 2 days. It's making me miss my older daughter. She and a friend did the sword fight scene as a Teen Arts performance, and made it to states. They were both fencers so it was a natural. She'll be back in skyping range this weekend - YAY. Who knew there were places in Northern England without internet!
Karen - eeek - your stress level must be through the roof! How far away is your son moving? I missed that part.
To the rest of you: You guys are inspiring! Up and at it early. I need to reset my body clock
