Default My body is not co-operating.

Does anybody else have times where their body has picked a weight it really wants to stay? I'm not talking about a plateau, but a weight your body wants to go back to. I have been that way all the way through the low 260s. I can get down a bit, and then one little mistake and my body goes back up there. I know that I can get out of this area of weight, but I'm just ready to scream at my scale to never show me anything in the 260s again!

my body maintained in the low 200s easily without effort on my part for i dont know how many years....if i gained weight, i could easily get back down to that point...if i lost a little more, it was easy to get right back to about 210...i took me MONTHS to break through that weight and lose more....but i just kept at it and the scale started to keep going down....however i KNOW that if i fail to be vigilant about my eating and exercise, i will be right back up there again

I am stuck in the 190s right now. I bounce down to 188 or 189, then back up to 190 or 191. I'm shaking things up this week, hopefully I can convince things to go down and stay down. I'm tired of looking at the 190s on the scale.

Yes, my body likes (I use the word 'like' very loosely, as obviously my body did not like being that overweight!) being in the 290's. I've been around that weight for nearly six years, sometimes losing sometimes gaining but always staying at around the same number.

I'm at 275 now at the scale seems to be continuing to move down, but I know that if I stop now and go back to my old ways, I will be back at 290-310 before I know it. It doesn't take very long for me to gain weight, sadly!

I'm excited to get down to the 260's at this point. I can't wait. It's been years since I was in the 260's.

But I wish you good luck on staying out of the 260's forever!

Not really for me. If I get stuck for any length of time, I can almost always trace it to eating more than I should be to keep a deficit.

Oh boy, do I ever! Mine ranges from 212-218... I went from 238 to 218 easy-peasy but it's proving to be a FIGHT to get below 215 right now. Even when I'm not calorie counting my body maintains pretty comfortably (well..comfortable is negotiable) around 214ish.

I was stuck in the low 250's for MONTHS. But there was a thyroid issue underlying that for some time, so now that it's been discovered, I'm looking forward to seeing if my weight loss picks up again and I breeze through the next 20 as fast as I did my first.

I am stuck right at the 199/200 mark. I got down to 200.8 last week. Soooo close but, then today 204. Come on...I want out already. Here's to a great week for us both.

don't worry! my dad had a similar problem. he's lost over 80 pounds now, but for a while he was stuck around -60 and started gaining weight for a period of 2-3 weeks even though he was sticking to his diet COMPLETELY and exercising every day. he talked to his nutritionist, and according to her, the weight wasn't coming off because 1) he'd gained some muscle and 2) when you lose fat, the fat cells don't immediately shrink. instead they take on water and try to maintain their size because they figure you're going to pig out again and want to reserve space for the fat they think is coming. over time, your body draws out that water and that's why you have sudden large weight losses. sure enough, about a week later my dad lost 9 pounds at once.

hang in there - i'm sure that as long as you're sticking to your diet/exercise plan the weight will eventually just melt off!

I'm stuck in the 150's for a long time. I managed to get to 143p in 2003 after having my son in 2002, and then gained and have never gotten below mid 150's again. I'm working on it now very hard but man my body is stuck and my age isn't helping either. :/ I lost weight MUCH easier in my late 20's.

Keep on keeping on...I feel your pain though.

The dieting term for this is "set point" and according to set point theories our bodies really like certain points along the way. The body wants to try to maintain at this set point number that it likes...so when you eat less it wants to burn less to try to keep you at that certain number. I heard it compared to as a bank account and the body is trying to keep your account balanced properly. Of course, ou can shake it up...but there are just some points along the way that your body really "likes" more than others and it fights to keep your maintaining at that level.
