But remember - that fat is GOOD fat. Don't equate them to animal fat. But yes, you need to take it easy. Use them instead of salad dressing. Use a couple slices on a sandwich instead of mayo. Healthy fats.

Well wish I had looked up the calories before I mashed those two up last night with chopped tomatoes, onions and lemon juice.
Avocado is really a superfood. It is SO worth the calories and fat. The fat is a good and healthy fat as berryblondeboys said and although when you are trying to limit calorie consumption to lose weight you have to watch your intake, it is definitely a food worth eating! I eat it almost every day!
I've been considering buying something like this so I can eat half an avocado and save the other for the next day. Can't really justify all of those calories on one whole avocado
Then again I wonder if you can just put it in regular tupperware
Otherwise Avocados are totally super healthy and should be eaten! When I can split one with someone I have half
I cut my avocado exactly in half, take out the pit and if I'm saving half (remember there are 5 of us in the house and 4 like avocados), but in case...
I put a bit of lemon or lime juice on the plate, rest the avocado on it - flesh part on the plate - on the lemon/lime juice. It forms a seal so no air gets in and doesn't allow it to oxidize. Of course, I refrigerate it for next day. I can scoop a slice or two out and replace it back, flesh side against the plate and it survives a few days. No need for a special gizmo.
I LOVE avocado, and I'm with you, I wish they were fewer calories, but I typically eat a whole one with black beans or with pasta (I will put avocado on almost anything) and I think it fills me up better than a lot of other uses for those calories.
As someone said, Avos are a super food. And a dieters friend. I'm going to geek out a little here for ya'll.
Avos have lycopene and beta-carotene which can help to absorb more carotene from other veges, so its great in your salad. Why is this good? Carotene is an antioxidant and linked to a lot, such as reducing risk of cancer, preventing heart disease, boosting immunity, helping muscles tone.
The type of fat in avos, one is called phytosterol. This is key for our inflammation system, so avos can reduce inflammation. This makes them great for people with inflammation issues (arthritis etc) but also if you're working out you're going to have minute inflammation a lot (for some all) the time. Another fat is oleic, it actually lowers cholesterol and helps boost absorption of some of the fat-soluble vitamins.
But wait, theres more! If that wasn't enough they also help regulate blood sugar levels and they are high in fibre, both soluble and insoluble fibre. So they're going to help you feel satiated (fat), keep you feeling full (fibre) and avoid the sugar spikes.
So really, half an avocado a day is worth the calories due to the overwhelming benefits.
-I'm a biologist, I apologise I can't help myself I just love to explain stuff like this!
