My dd has been going to see a dietician to work on her being overweight. Both of us are going to try and do 10,000 steps a day. Are there any pedometers that work better than others? I am looking for advice on what a good pedometer would be. Any suggestions would be welcome!
There are all sorts of gizmos to count steps or more.
Any pedometer works. Then there are things like the Fitbit and the BodyBugg/Bodymedia Fit (formerly GoWearFit) that detail a bit more.
I found with my pedometer that it didn't get all my steps. The Bodymedia reads more for the every day stuff - like shuffling around in the kitchen. But any gizmo works - it all depends on how much you want to shell out.
I have the fit bit - it's a bit pricy $99 /free shipping but it's amazing! It's small so nobody can see it, slips into your waist band, pocket or bra, it comes with an awesome free website and both the device and website tells you:
PER DAY and PER WEEK:
Steps walked
miles walked
stairs climbed
level of activeness during the day
calories burned
sleep cycle [how often you wake up at night and when]
I've had it for about two months and LOVE it - I am way more active b/c I always want to beat my scores from the day or week before which is great. It only needs to charge for about a 1/2 hour once a week or so and it sends inspiring messages throughout the day which I love!
Also, you two can link up on the website and compare data with eachother and others if you want.
I second the fitbit if you wanna spend the $$ for it. It also learns about you, and there's no monthly fee associated with it.
I find it helps to motivate me too. To do X or burn X many more calories, because I can see the info right here in front of me at any time. It's also very small.
