Default Life Exploded, literally

My life has been turned upside down. My fiance and I were out at this physical therapy appointment on Monday afternoon. We got back and his street was blocked off by an ambulance and a fire truck, we parked the car and walked down. As we turned the corner we saw the firefighters going in and out of his place. The place went up while we were gone. We were only gone an hour and a half. It started in the basement, we don't know now if it was wiring or the furnace or waterheater. The basement and the bedroom took the brunt of it. Thank god we weren't hurt.

It is just so scary.

The important thing is that nobody was hurt.

So sorry to hear that, but thank goodness nobody was hurt. That's actually one of my fears - coming home and finding my home has gone up in flames

Thanks everyone. It's been rough, and today will be even rougher, as we're going to get what we can, before I go to Chicago to get my passport.

I am full of sympathy and understand all too well the effects of this on your life.

In 2001 my home went up in smoke and, unfortunately, my then partner and myself were both in it. We had to be rescued off the roof by the firefighters. In the weeks following I spent eight hours a day trying to rescue what belongings I could but still now I sometimes open boxes and there is the smoke smell off something.

It is difficult and traumatic dealing with the wake of a fire like that and I promise you it will get better. I know we are all fire conscious ... at least I hope all are .... but accidents do happen and it really does put things in perspective.

Thank heavens you were safe.

We're on a tight schedule at the moment. My parents have a trip planned for this coming week, so we only had one day to save what we could at the house. We got some important stuff (photos, a collectable or two) but also lost some stuff that meant a lot to us.

i can't imagine the difficulties you two must be facing, however no one was hurt and that's the most important thing.

i wish you the absolute best in re-building all that was lost. <3

Thanks again everyone. Things are getting better, we're on the track to getting fiance's passport (he was born at a military base, and doesn't have his birth certificate, so we have to apply for a reprint of).

So sorry to hear that, my bf had the same thing happen at a place he was living. You'll get through it, just take it one day at a time. Did he have home insurance or renters insurance? That should help to cover things that were lost. If he does then they also should pay for him to stay at a hotel for the duration until he finds another place. I work in a hotel and we've had a guest staying with us since Irene hit CT. Hope all gets straightened out for you are in my prayers.
