Question Health problems..need supplemental drink help

Okay, so i was diagnosed with having gastritis(inflamation of the stomach tissues and lining) and i have been in massive amounts of pain and nausea which has resulted in not eating for a week and a half...(way to lose 10 pounds, get sick)

I am very limited to what i can eat. Of course i am obese and so losing weight isnt a problem, but what is the problem is that i cant eat enough to sustain my body from going into starvation mode. So... im looking for a supplemental shake that is:

Low in fat
not Chocolate flavoured
Not acidic
Not made with lots of dairy
Is easily digestible
Contains greater amount of calories, just needs to be lower in fat calories
Does not contain spices
Is bland
Is not citrus or fruit flavoured
Does not contain high amounts of protein

So far the only thing i have been able to eat is chicken broth and jello and apple juice.. soo...im going to need something else in my diet to help me nutritionally.

Any thoughts?

Starvation mode has been proven to be a myth so don't worry about that. To get good nutrition, I recommend Ensure.

I was going to suggest Ensure or Boost. This is only temporary, don't be cancerned about Starvation Mode when you are ill, do what you need to do to get well.

You certainly don't need to worry about starvation mode.

I know nothing about what you were diagnosed with but I'm guessing your doctor does so it seems kind of foolish to ask for advice on what you should be consuming here.

Do yourself a favor. Ask your doctor.

How about making green smoothies from scratch? Just a thought. Also, if you look up your condition, you can probably find a diet that is recommended for it. Hope you feel better asap!

I agree about asking your doctor. I've had various digestive issues in the past, including gastritis, and can tell you that sound medical advice from a doctor who understands your specific issues, beats random trial and error.

Lots of doctors don't know a lot about nutrition and diet, but they can refer you to a good dietitian if needed, and thats a good place to start. Boost and ensure are dairy based and may not be appropriate for you. There are some soy and hemp based nutritional drinks available, and a dietitian can help you find the balance of nutrients you need, if you need to stick to this alternative for a while. Hope you feel much better soon!

For weight loss and general nutrition, I would agree that a dietitian's advice would likely be more valuable than a doctor's - but I would expect most gp's to have a decent understanding of which foods are most likely to aggravate the gastritis.
