Default Heavy Cream Substitute

Any suggestions? I see recipes that I want to try with the cold weather coming up, but am trying to make them healthier.

It depends on what purpose it serves in the recipe, but sometimes some plain yogurt thinned with fat free milk works well.

I agree- I might be able to help you more if I knew what the recipe was for. Fat free half and half works in some things. Also, ff coffeemate works in some stuff. In other things I might even be tempted to use milk and cornstarch to thicken. You could try ff evaporated milk (which is slightly thicker and sweeter than regular milk)...what's the recipe?

I use ff evap skim milk if I need creaminess, especially in soups.

I bought an ice cream maker and I've wanted to find a way to substitute the heavy cream in most recipes. Ice cream is very different from other things that require heavy cream though.

Banana ice cream is too tasty for it's own good.
