Dear Hubby's surgery on the ear went very well. Will find out what the tests shows Friday when DH calls docs office. Goes next week to see what the specialist thinks about the lymph glands

Ruthie Thanks for the new thread.

Had good FBS this morning and weight may be starting to come down. I'm so busy with everything and DD hasn't even started school yet. DGD came in today and read a little card inviting grandparents to grandparents day for lunch on September 14 and said, "I want to take both of you that day". So will have to go. Wouldn't want to disappoint her.

Got my nails done today and found out my nail lady is going on a 2 month vacation. She recommended someone and will be seeing the other person instead. The one she recommended is the owner and she and her hubby are good, but the last few times she did my nails she was in a hurry. Her hubby is slower and gentle as well. May not have pedicures while my lady is gone.

I sure hope I can get back here more often. I really think things won't get a whole lot better till DD starts school in October and I get things on a regular schedule with the little GS.

Will try to check in tomorrow.

Good morning. Did not take any meds last night (forgot) and FBS was 5.0 this morning. Weight was down a bit to 178 which was encouraging. In August I pity ate myself up to 183.

Butterfly, the only thing that motivates me to work out is to get into the workout clothes first thing in the morning. Then I do it! Lately I've not been doing it but this month will be different.

Just went back tot he old thread and read Reimontana's story. very inspiring and what a great doctor!

one of the things I like about the way I work as a health professional is that I can tailor appointments to the needs of the client. Most take about 30 minutes for their appointments, but some need more on a regular basis, and some take more once in a while. Sometimes I spend an hour or more with someone. This is what happened for Rie, and its so important. Rie: do you think this TLC and encouragement is part of your success?
Many studies show that giving someone time and the feeling they are cared about is more important than the treatment. and that treatments work if the patient feels the caregiver cares about the outcome. Its one of the reasons a good family doctor makes a big difference. The regular contact with a known caregiver who is "watching" the progress makes a difference.
Rie's story is a great example of this.

For myself, fell off the good eating wagon yesterday, but climbing back on today. will be craving the carbs all day though.

I am enjoying myself at the lake, and went for two walks yesterday, so exercise is not a problem. Hope the weather will clear up though, so I can sit outside more, and less time inside. DH has some outside jobs for me today too, and I plan to do my yoga dvd.
have a good day friends.

Happy September!

Wow, I can't believe that it is September... Thanks for getting us over here, Ruth.

Thank you for all your kind responses to my story. It was very therapuetic for me to write it. Fatmad, I totally agree that the kindness and support that I have experienced at my dr office has been a big part of my journey. That whole office is kindness and caring people - the receptionists, the lab people, nurses, everyone. I actually kind of look forward to my appointments. I wish all medical offices were able to find the luxury of time to treat everyone individually.

Ruth, cool on the dropping ticker. I know that August was hard for you with the injury. Let's hope that the cool fall weather is better for you.

Trish, hang in there. I think it was several months after ds and gs moved in before I felt like I had a handle on my schedule.

Bonnie, my working out trick is this. I rise, start the coffee and get totally dressed in my workout clothes - including my shoes. I have a rule for myself that I must be totally dressed and in my shoes before I can decide that I won't work out. It is too funny how much it works. I also reward myself with lots of feedback. I keep track of my activity level and it becomes self supporting. I am working toward a long term goal of a presidential fitness medal www.thepresidentschallenge.org. I earn points everyday for workouts and regular activities. It is strangely motivating. Good luck.

Have a great day!

Rie: I hear you about being dressed and ready to go. But I am not a morning exerciser, and find afternoons are my thing. If I can get to yoga about 430 or 5 pm, I am fine. I like walks, usually after supper. So as long as that part of my day is clear, I can do it.
I don't know why I am this way, just am.

We got a call just before noon to go pick up youngest DGD. The school gave us the address of a place to take her to get help for her ear which is infected. She had tubes in her ears in 2008. One has fallen out and the one that hasn't seems to have an infection around it. We got her an antibiotic and hopefully there will be a big improvement when we go back in a week.

I used to be a morning exerciser, but just don't have the time any more. Bonnie I have a difficult time with motivation, but I am working on it. I'm determined to start exercising this month so I started with a small amount last night just to get me started. Because of my new schedule with the grands, I will probably become an evening or even before bedtime exerciser. I've heard you shouldn't exercise before bedtime, but it sure didn't keep me from sleeping last night.

Rie The reason I love my new doc is that he takes the time to talk to me. DD went to him and didn't tell him she was our daughter and he did the same thing with her. Got to love a doc who cares that much about his patients.

Fatmad So glad you are enjoying your time at the lake.

Ruthie Congrats on your weight being down this morning.

Slim, CatholicCajun and everybody else

Y'all have a nice evening.

Well, oldest DGD came home with 3 rashes on her leg that her gym teacher thinks is poison oak. She has no idea where she got it. Oh the joys of grandparenting. My son had it twice and the second time it was really bad. I sure hope this is the only time for her.

Hello all!

fbs has been up a little today despite a good workout and very little food today. I think it is stress as I have been stressed and agitated all day. Oh well, the highest was actually 104 but I am never over a hundred. Is it possible that it stayed up because I didn't eat much?

I am basically packed and ready to go in the morning. We are headed to the mountains to camp along side one of my favorite high mountain trout rivers, the Boulder. If you every saw the movie "a River Runs Through It" with Robert Redford, the Boulder was the river they used in the film. It is primitive camping. I hope that I am still able to tolerate sleeping in my Explorer. My fly rod is ready and I am bringing two books along. I have plans to watch my carbs so that I can save them for the smore that I plan to joyfully eat each evening by the fire.

Fatmad and Trish, I think that each of us has an optimal excercise time when we tolerate/enjoy/can cope with working out. We are lucky if we can find that and then have a life that allows our preference.

I hope that you enjoy the beginning of this long weekend. I will be back to read all your posts and catch up in a couple of days.

Happy September everyone!

I haven't posted in a week or so, I have been on holiday but I have been working out every day for 40 mins on my cross trainer and have lost 3 lbs, 2 inches off my waist and my blood sugars have dropped by 50%, still a bit high but are pretty much normal by mid-afternoon.

I have to work out every day, if I miss just 1 there's a chance I will miss tomorrow as well. I'm disappointed with my weight loss and was expecting more but I'm sure it will come off in time. I'm not giving up this time. It's a life style choice I have made now!

Hope everyone is ok XX

Butterfly 50: Thanxs for the support. I have to plan ahead for my exercise. I have to set my goal the day before and not divert from my plan, ever. I bought a cross trainer and I do 40 mins every evening as soon as I get home from work. I pod on, off I go. I really enjoy it now. It's kind of me time, a way to unwind after the day. My family know not to disturb me and I will gladly listen to them as soon as I have finished. I sometimes drop my bag and go to my cross trainer without even speaking. They know I've had a bad day then!

Fatmad: Glad you are having a nice time. it sounds really relaxing.

Rie: Your trip sounds fab, sounds like a beautiful place!

You chickies are so good about exercise. I feel like a slug but am definitely giving walking a try this morning no that the leg is nearly normal. A trip down for the mail will be a start. Little Jazz will come along and will think he's died and gone to heaven.

Had another low (2.3) this morning and realized I forgot to eliminate the glyburide when I set up my weekly pill box. A thin bagel with cheese and some grapes seem to have fixed the problem.

Today will be another day of healthy eating ... not hard to do with all the great veggies this time of year although I fear I may be turning into a tomato! I baked an egg in my ratatouille for lunch yesterday and it was yummy. Today I plan to make a lentil soup with some chard and tomato added. Right now, I have enough chard to feed the 8th army!

I do hope everyone enjoys this last long weekend of the summer.

Ruth and all, what is it with the thin bagels and thin buns, they have as many carbs as the regular squishier ones. There is a low carb grocery in Toronto, may go there someday, or even into Buffalo NY sometime when visiting my dad to get some other stuff. Can't get low carb desserts here, some sugar free, but usually also low fat. sigh* Canadians sure don't have the range of products our American friends have.
Have good weather here today, will walk this am, since its getting hot later. I may take the kayak out later if the winds calm and the water isn't too rough.
Happy Labour Day weekend friends!
