Default Gardening question - fall or spring?

This summer I planted a little island garden in my front yard. I'm not loving the island look. I want to connect it up and make a more 'flowing' connection with the front flower beds, but when should I work on killing the grass? In the fall with laying newspaper and then covering it with mulch? Or should I wait for spring to do it? I'm thinking fall would be wiser, but that's just guessing!

thoughts?

I think fall is a better time - it will allow for the decaying grass to become nutrients for the soil before planting new stuff.

Where do you live? That makes a huge difference.

I would start now. Nothihng like letting the hot sun help kill some grass. And realy removing the grass will help in the long run. Then put down the news paper and mulch.. I can't wait to have a home of my own again.. l LOVE to garden...
