Last night I met some friends for Mexican food. There were not many healthy options but I was happy with how I ate: a chicken burrito salad bowl (basically, a burrito without the flour wrap). I requested extra pinto beans instead of rice, and no sour cream. It was very filling, but also very satisfying with cheese, guacamole, lettuce, salsa, chicken and beans. I ate the whole thing even though I was full about 2/3 in, but I didn't feel too badly about it. It was a pretty good choice. I also did not have any tortilla chips. We went out for a beer after, but I had not had one with dinner so I did have one beer, the first alcoholic drink in 4 weeks. Not too bad overall and happy to have made some decent decisions. In the past, I would have eaten a bowl of chips and then asked for more, a whole burrito (including rice and sour cream), and 1-2 beers with dinner (plus the one after dinner).

I was .2 lbs down this morning. Considering it is my TOM, I will take it.

Oakland Dieter, how are things going lately? No tortilla chips is a great thing; those little buggers can get you.

I've been doing pretty well and am down about 3 lbs from my re-start weight, to 145. I let myself have a bit of simple carbs now and then, so I'm not 100% religious about my plan but it turns out that 95% on-plan is pretty effective too.

Hi JayZee-I think you and i are the only ones on this thread (occasionally!). Thanks for checking in. Congrats to getting down to 145!! That's awesome. You must be looking great, because you are 2 1/2 inches taller than me and I know that I am starting to be happy with how I look, even though I've got 9 pounds left to lose. I'm shorter than you and aiming for a higher weight than you are, but I look and feel healthy at 140 so that's where I am going to try to maintain, once I get there. :-)

Things are pretty good here. I weighed 148.6 this morning, second day in a row at 148.something (yesterday was 148.4). I will be happy if I lose 1 pound a month for the next 9 months, and VERY happy if I can lose 2 and get there in 4-5 months. I am mostly teaching myself good maintenance habits now, a way of eating I can live with every day going forward.

146.8 this morning! I couldn't believe it. We had some friends over for dinner last night and I made a coconut chicken curry, brown rice noodles and bok choy. I made the curry with low fat coconut milk and used only white-meat chicken with no skin--but I thought for sure I would have gained. I ate too much dinner (seconds, when I wasn't hungry anymore, which I try not to do these days) plus a small piece of apple berry pie that my friend brought. Plus 2 big glasses of wine!

I think I was pretty hungry going into dinner, so maybe that's why I was still able to lose weight, but whatever the reason, I'll take it. Going right back into healthy eating today. The biggest takeaway is that I can not drink 2 big glasses of wine anymore. Because I haven't been drinking much alcohol at all as I've been losing weight, and I'm now 35 pounds lighter than I was, 2 glasses was too much. My sleep was affected badly (and I love my sleep) and I felt hungover for several hours in the morning! All the more reason to drink very sparingly.

I thoroughly enjoyed the evening last night, however, so all in all, I don't feel badly about how I ate/drank. It's all a balance, a one night calorie splurge with friends is completely fine.

Oakland dieter, that's fantastic! So often weight seems to be independent of what you ate or drank recently; there's so much that can contribute to changes on the scale.

I haven't been drinking much at all the last few months, so now when I have a half-glass of wine, I definitely feel it. I think a full glass now would probably give me a small hangover.

Hi Jayzee and whomever else (if anyone!) reads this thread-How's it going? I've been traveling out of the country. I tried to make decent food decisions and while away, and while I wasn't perfect, for the most part I did alright.

Back now, and waited a few days to weigh in because I wasn't sure if I had gained weight on the trip. I was hoping to maintain and not gain, and it looks like I did. I was 145.2 this morning. Only 5.8 pounds to go until goal.

Mini goals for the next couple months:

144.8 by Tuesday, November 3rd
143.8 by Tuesday, November 10th
142.8 by Tuesday, November 17th (this is a particularly important goal, because the last time (12 years ago) I lost weight (and didn't have 45 pounds to lose then, like I do/did this time) I maintained between 140-143 for about 2 years. This time, I plan to maintain, hopefully forever, between 139-143.
141.8 by Tuesday, November 23
141.8 by Tuesday, November 30 (no weight loss necessary during Thxgiving week!)
140.8 by Tuesday, December 1st
139.8 by Tuesday, December 8th
139.4 by Tuesday, December 15th GOAL!!!!!! Will be an even 45 pounds lost from when I started!!
Then, maintain, maintain, maintain

I know these are aggressive mini goals. I'm nearing the end of my weight loss push, and my body is NOT going to want to give up these last few pounds. However, if I don't at least have it in my head and TRY for these goals, then I probably will end up not losing anything more.

One of my clients commented for the first time yesterday on my weight loss. It's weird to me when people ask me "how much did you lose?" None of your business really. I wouldn't ask someone that. For some reason, I've been minimizing my answer recently--have been saying 30 pounds when really, it's actually almost 40 pounds now. It's hard to admit to anyone that I was 45 pounds overweight. Not that 30 sounds all that much better.

Anyway--just hoping to hang in there for this final push.

Hi Oakland!
Were you traveling for business or pleasure, or some of each? Where did you go?

Congrats on maintaining, that's always terrific. You're so close to your goal now. You are very welcome to join us over in the maintainers' section, we have a thread going in Living Maintenance called "maintainers losing a lot and winning!" It's for those of us who either have 10 lbs left, or backslid and now have about 10 lbs to re-lose (like me) There is also a thread for folks who are just working on the last few pounds or on being diligent maintainers. Both are quite active, and as this thread is mostly crickets lately, you might find it more supportive over there.

I'm re-focusing with the holidays coming up. Try as I might to overcome it, visiting my parents over the holidays always revives old body hatred. I'd rather be comfortable with my body and not self-conscious, as that spills over into what I eat (and don't eat) and I don't want to be dwelling on any of that. My goal is very similar to yours - 140 lbs by Dec. 15th.

Hi all!

I only weigh once a week, on Sundays. I have an ultimate goal to be 199 by my daughter's wedding on 4/17/16. I can get there with a loss of 1.6 lbs/week. I need accountability, hence the accountability thread I started! I'm excited to be joining a gym tomorrow. It's much too gross in the winter time here in the Frozen North to exercise outside.

Hi FineWithMe--welcome! Good luck meeting your first goal. I hope your first week at the gym was a good one.

Hi JayZee--Thanks for the invite over to the maintenance section! I may take you up on it sometime. Good luck with your parents this holiday season, and with reaching your goal by then so you can feel comfortable and enjoy the holidays. Funny how being around our parents can make us feel like we did when we were younger w/ old patterns of relating.

I was in Costa Rica, all for fun. Beautiful country.

My eating has been okay for the most part. If I can manage to eat three healthy balanced meals each day, usually by planning ahead, I do okay. I can tell I am eating more these days, because I have gotten tired of the feeling of being somewhat hungry that losing weight entails for me. Not a bad thing as I am moving into maintenance. However I do want to make sure I actually reach my goal weight, before I actively stop trying to lose weight.

November weights-
11/1--didn't weigh
11/2--142.0 NEW LOW WEIGHT!
11/3--142.6
11/4--didn't weigh

GOAL!! A few weeks sooner than planned for!!! I have been weighing in or below my goal of 139.4 for the last four days. This morning I was at my lowest weight in probably close to 20 years: 137.6.

I am incredibly happy but also scared to try to maintain now for the rest of my life, and not gain it back. I've never lost weight and not gained it back again plus more. I started at 184.5 so have lost a total of 46.9 pounds this year. I'm happy with my body and maybe I will try to maintain between 135 - 140. Not sure. I've never had this much weight to lose in the past, and I can't believe I actually did it. It was hard, but now the even harder part begins...

Oakland dieter, congrats!!! Maintenance is challenging because it lasts forever, and gradual changes cause gradual creep on the scale. The good news is that you don't have to be perfect at it, as long as you're honest with yourself. If you clothes get a bit tight or you're constantly weighing above your happy zone, time to reel it back in a bit. But weight management is just background noise to life; don't let it consume more than a tiny amount of your energy because you are so much more than your weight.
