What am I doing wrong? Advice please!

Hi,

I am so frustrated and don't understand why I am not losing weight. I've been going to the gym for months now and cut down and counted my calories and have not lost a single pound. What is going on? I even decided to go low/no carb and still when I go to weight myself the scale doesn't move. I'm ready to give up but I can't because I have an upcoming vacation and I want to lose some weight. Can someone please share any tips and advice on what can boost my weightloss? I don't what else to do. Thanks.

RA

I am sorry that you are struggling.

Have you considered any of the fasting plans?

I follow 5:2 plan, where I eat low(ish) calories; 1200-1500 per day for 5 days and 2 days where I eat 500-600 calories. If I stick to it it works!

I might just try that...since nothing else works. How many lbs. do you lose in a week? Thanks.

Well, if I stick to the plan 1-2 pounds...I have struggled myself a bit too, but mine has been called laziness...lol! I just started it again; Join us at the 5:2 tread! http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/supp...rking-you.html

What is your routine at the gym?

30togo 07-05-2014 06:56 PM

Do you exercise with that plan?

I usually do a kickboxing class, or a running treadmill class or a strength traing class which is a mix of weights and cardio. It depends what I'm in the mood for. I was running on the treadmill almost everyday. I was also seeing a personal trainer but she was too intense to the point I just couldn't do it and didn't like it. She told me it was my eating that was probably why I wasn't losing weight. Who knows?

One can not out exercise bad eating habits. It is calories in vs calories out. Hoe many calories are you taking in? Do you measure everything?

How many calories are you eating? That is the main thing that will effect weight loss, and as an "over 40" our metabolism is slower so I think we need less food than our 20-something selves did.

I agree with calories in versus calories out. If you aren't measuring things and sure of the calorie count, you may be surprised.

Do circuit training and if that is something you are already doing, so some extra circuits. My understanding is that circuits can get your metabolism reved up than some other types of exercises. Sometimes if you are at the gym during prime time and you have to wait to use equipment or weights, you might think of ways to keep moving or go for other equipment.

I love the website Fitsugar. They have lots of videos for short circuits of 10 minutes. All you need is some free weights or something around the house to substitute for them.

Also, try breaking up you exercise if possible. If you go to the gym in the evening, try a 10-minute circuit or two in the morning.

Also, how LONG have you been on any given plan? Your body takes time to adjust to different lifestyle/diets. If you are jumping around on different plans every week, you're probably not going to see much in the way of results. And like Sum says, you absolutely cannot out exercise bad eating habits.

I am in the exact same boat. I have been working out at the gym-- a couple of times a day several days a week, cut all junk, eating less and only whole foods, and I've lost 2 pounds in two months. Auuurrrg! I've decided that I'm just going to pretend my scale is broken. This is what I'm doing with my body, I KNOW I'm doing the very best I can. I may have to go see my doctor. Hang in there! At least you're getting healthier!
