Haggis, welcome glad to have you join us!

Annie, Yes two years ago I had cataracts removed and my lens replaced. This surgery was to' remove' a membrane that they can't remove during the original surgery. Reading and my distance vision are very much improved. I've been having fun just looking around.

Fruitlady-I'm sorry, I forgot to welcome you back! So glad you had a nice time on your vacation. Where did you stay? Sounds like a great time.

I'm fairly new to recognizing and having awareness of the factors that contribute to being unhealthy, but there is definitely something about trigger foods: I don't have to research mine to know what they are!

Bread is one of these, definitely.

Onward with mindfulness in mind!

Welcome Newbies!

Annie- We stayed at Resorts Hotel & Casino, we go every year!

This weekends eating was terrible, I already gained 3lbs. and that didn't stop me from eating too much junk today. I'm 2 weeks away from my 2yr. maintenance anniversary and I'm 12lbs heavier( & it will be more). I feel like I have failed maintenance cause I'm gaining instead. I'm not giving up, going back to all healthy tomorrow and trying to forget how unhealthy I ate this weekend. I have 2 weeks to lose as much weight as possible!

fruitlady - your overall stats are amazing! I think we all deserve a "vacation" from this brutal marathon of weight loss and maintenance every once in awhile. Did you enjoy the food you ate on vacation? Did you have fun? If so, it was worth it!

I get more angry at myself when I blow my eating on a bag of chips in front of the TV, than when I am sampling new foods or eating an amazing dinner on vacation.

I wanted to mention about cultish yet sometimes useful groups (from a recent comment about Overeater's Anon). I went to a Nonviolent Communication (NVC) statewide meeting a few years ago. Had no clue about it, but was super interested (I went with my Quaker group). Boy they had product and oaths and contracts and overwhelming enthusiasts. Some of their people talked with all the whites of their eyes blazin'. It was funny (internally humorous) as I really thought they are on to the right message, method, and such. It was great but creepy at the same time. I hope the books turn out useful from Overeaters Anon. You never know.

I've been off line for a bit. This weekend, the family went for our very first family bike ride. It was both great and super frustrating. I have gotten to a high speed on biking while my husband hasn't been on a bike for 20 years (and that was in a small village in Nepal, to boot). He fell and scraped his chest while trying to use a hand signal to turn. We have a long community bike path and I really like it. We had to turn around because we'd gone too far for my hubby's bottom to handle (talk about saddle sore). I hope we'll continue to do more. I'm so glad he's biking. I MUST rein in my own Speedy Gonzales. We did get 2 1/2 hours biking in (really why would I complain?) plus a family lunch a friend's restaurant. You'd think I would have been glowing with thrills.

I am glad to say I also lost 2.6 pounds this week. I tried the frequent eating strategy. I either snacked (80-100 cals) or ate a meal (300 cals) every two hours with a max of 1500. It's working so far. We'll see how it progresses. I'm glad to still have other Wise Ones' advice to pull out if a plateau returns (rotate daily calorie intake to trick the body was one I was thinking of next).

Singe: I love your signature phrase "amat victoria curam". I looked it up and found "Victory loves carefulness."

Dog days of August mean the weight loss is super tough. Hang in there folks. We'll keep plugging ahead! Slow and steady wins the race!

I'm not sure what my problem was yesterday. I felt so drained. I woke up did a few things, took a nap, did a few more things, another nap, Hubby got home, we ate, and I slept the rest of the evening. I feel a little better today. I should after all that sleep!

Starting a new thread for August!

Your cultish yet useful intro-I have quite a reference desk of experience with those types!

Thank you for the compliment: I take it as one that you looked up the phrase! I seem to be a wordsmith magpie: I just love phrases and interesting context and different languages. A friend of mine says I collect philosopher jewelry, ha! It seemed apropos of what I'm doing here and in real life: the planning and thoughtfulness is what brings me to my success, you know?

Have a great day everyone!

Hi all!

Back to eating healthy after the horrible eating I did over the weekend. The scale is up big time! Tonight I'm making light & spicy scalloped sweet potatoes for the first time. Hope the family likes it! I feel so lazy today from all this water weight, it needs to go!

Stepped on the scale this morning and it is still at 183lbs. It's frustrating, because I have felt hungry a lot of the time, and I thought that hunger would mean I am not consuming as many calories and that would translate into pounds lost. Guess not. Now I am starting to doubt that I will reach my goal of 179lbs by 8/15. I hate that the scale can dictate my mood for the rest of the day.
