Oh boy have I been a busy little hen!
Friday and Saturday, I spent running around town getting stuff DH needed for a trip to visit his folks. Sunday morning I packed him off to the airport, and then I stopped in to the hardware store and bought a ton of paint! I spent Sunday afternoon washing walls, taping woodwork and moving furniture (OMG - how can there be that much dust under bookshelves that sit on the floor!).
This was day one of painting. I got two coats on the top half of the walls (I'm doing a two tone thing) in the bedroom, hallway and front entry. Tomorrow and Wednesday I hope to get the bottom half done, Thursday, I hope to get the bathroom done, and Friday, the kitchen.
I might be a wee bit ambitious here, so I'm leaving the kitchen to last since it's not as bad as the other areas.
The fun part will be when DH comes home - he doesn't know I'm doing this, so it'll be a nice surprise for him.
I haven't had time to exercise properly for about four days, but I think I've burned a ton of caloried with all my running around and painting stuff. I feel pooped anyway! I don't have the space to make proper meals (kitchen is full of painting stuff), so I'm eating pre-made food, but it's still decent stuff that the health food store sells.

Oh, it's exercise - I lost about 2 lbs a week with no exercise over a 3 week period when I was redoing my son's room and the living room last year. And that was with a 40 hour a week desk job slowing me down!

Hubby and I spent most of today running errands. Nothing very exciting to report. It is cooler this week, we took Sweet Puppy to the dog park this morning and couldn't keep her out of the pond {we didn't try very hard }. But she was a little less than thrilled when we hosed her off in the backyard when we got home.
We are still waiting for the grout to dry in the shower surround. The humidity isn't that high so Hubby thought it would be dry by now. Since its the only bathroom in the house we are taking very careful baths.
Jeider, I used to have a policy that in order to 'go' by the low reading on the scale I had to get it at least twice. I've heard this called the 'scale dance"; especially moving it around to see if its lower somewhere else.
OMW, Yay on the 170's! Sweet of Hubby to explain to your dog even if it can't understand.
Beemer, I have no problems with weekly threads. I was recenlty given a used treadmill, and started walking then adding jogging intervals {Cardio Coach programs} I found that the faster I go the less my legs and feet complain. Trouble is I'm not used to it so I can't keep the jogging up for very long, but I have noticed a great improvement in my endurance over the few months I've had the TM
ICU,I really want one of those pools. I have just the place for it; behind the garage in the shade!
Marie,April is a wonderful companion but the converstaions are a little one sided. Hubby says she has 'lab moments'. Since she's half German Shepherd she's usually very smart and catches on quickly, but occasionally she just stares at us with a DUMBFOUNDED look on her face. Lab Moment.

Hi chicks! Sorry I haven't checked in for a bit! Been thinking about you all and loving seeing the new profile pics! I think I could keep up better with a weekly thread. I'm usually on my blackberry and I read a lot of posts but replying sometimes just takes too long and if I've missed a lot then it seems overwhelming on this little thing!
I'm excited for July. I feel like I could have done better in June so I'm ready to make up for it in July!
I wanted to share a little NSV with you all, maybe you can appreciate it :-) after several years of putting my bra on backwards, because I just couldn't reach around my back, I was able to put it on normally this morning seems a silly thing but to me, this is more 'proof' that all this effort is actually working!

Patch - "Lab" moment I had to laugh, almost spit coffee all over my computer. Hogan came to us last year with his seven siblings as orphaned pups when they were two days old. Although I had NO desire for a 5th dog Mack wanted to keep Hogan and I couldn't tell him no. What a mistake... that dog is going to be the death of me, makes Marley look like CGC extraordinaire. HOGAN IS MACK'S DOG!!! My GF that talked me into fostering the pups is a lab person and is ALWAYS blaming the "breed" for their behaviour. At this point I believe it and have to say I probably will never have another lab.
EDITED TO ADD: It's a good thing Hogan is such a goof and cute cause it really does help me forget all the BAD behaviour; I REALLY DO LOVE HIM!!!
BP - What a nice thing to do while DH is away. When Mack was gone I just came up with a list of things "we" needed to do.
I too am big on list, would be lost without 2-3 going at the same time.
Renee, I remember when I didn't have to put my bra on at the front and turn it, it truly was a happy day.... congrats.
Well I still need to get on the treadmill before I go in for my EKG. I'll be back later.

Good morning all!! I am sitting here with my Parrot on my shoulder. He is helping me with what to type, LOL!! I have to be careful or he bite the front of my laptop and makes it hibernate. He is silly! He really could tell me what to write as he talks all the time.
Should we start the weekly threads beginning in July then? What day should we start since tomorrow is July 1? I think it will be a little easier to do this and keep up hopefully.
CAT-I bet you are glad that you are getting closer to your surgery date! Not for the fact of having the actualy surgery but for the end result. I had a Lab once for awhile and she was great. She was one of those service dogs that you train as a puppy and then they go on to help someone. She was the exception in my mind though as she did go on to help someone which most don't. I wouldn't have one too because I am very spoiled by having 3 totally non-shedding dogs. That is nice!
Velveteen-Nice to see you around!! Yeah on your NSV! Hope you are able to refocus in July. We all go through those times like you had in June. Good luck!!
Onmyway-Awesome job on getting to the 170's!! I bet you feel great!
Penguin-My sister just got her second Lab. They were told he was a purbred and even has AKC papers. We both think he is not however and at 9 months old he was 102 pounds. His ears and muzzle are all wrong. We are very much thinking he is part Great Dane. She is going to call the lady and ask if she has a neighbor with a male Great Dane. She loves him anyway but would like to know.
ann-Maintaining is fine to do. It is much better than going back up at all. Good luck with the rest of your wedding plans!!
BP-Wow!! You are much more motivated than I am! Great job!!
jelder-Lists are usually the only way I can get a big job done, especially the older I get, LOL!! Have fun!
Marie-I think it is worth the time but sometimes I get so harried I don't take the time. This group rocks and I really enjoy being here! I like dry air too but live in the wrong state for that. I was born in San Bernadino CA and say I am still a California girl at heart. I would do so much better out there as far as weather!
ICU-You were at the dealership yesterday. Did you get a new car or having work done?
Off for a run with my daughter, yeah!! I love running with her! Have a great day everyone!!

Wow - I missed a lot of activity in a few days! I won't even try to respond to everything but just wanted to say hi and thank you for your help resisting major temptations this past weekend. Still holding steady at 187 so at least I didn't go up while I was away.
What is everyone up to for the 4th?

I guess everything ia back to normal after the weekend {sigh}, Well, except for a fan in the bathroom trying to dry the grout faster plus leftover tools, and paint samples spread all over the kitchen!
Laundry and cardio for today.
Dancer, We've been invited to a party across the street, the couple are a few years {like 10} younger than us so its nice of them to include us.
Beemer, We could go ahead and start the thread tomorrow then, next week start on a Sun or Mon. This weeks will be short but continuing to start the next weeks thread on a Wed might be confusing. Your sister is going to go broke feeding that dog at this rate!
CruiseCat, I read Marley before the movie came out, I enjoyed the book and Marley's exploits so much I was reading parts to my Hubby. We felt much better about April afterwards. I just read 'Corpse Pose" by Diana Killian {mystery about a woman who inheirits a yoga studio when her aunt is killed} The aunt had a lab named Monster! Again, I read parts to Hubby and he ended up reading the book next.
Velveteen, congrats on the bra NSV {that one took me a few days to figure out!}. I put my sports bras on backwards {I like them very tight!} and it really is a big pain. all the twisting around, probably not good for the bras either. Glad to hear you are doing so well!

Wow, where to start?
Beemer, I bought myself a new Ford Escape for my bday in May. My poor little Neon got stuck in my driveway SEVEN times last winter, and although it was a fun little car, DS9 has been bellyaching about the tight fit in the back seat and always having sun in his eyes. The Escape gives him gobs of room, has glare-coating on the windows, and gives him a cupholder and an electrical socket of his own. It gets very close to the gas mileage that my Neon did, and ... bonus ... my insurance went down. I was getting a bad roof rail fit fixed - I'm picky about that stuff having worked 18 yrs in the auto business. Oh ... AND it was built in Kansas City, so I feel good about spending money at home and with a company who told the govt to shove their bailout up their butt.
Velveteen - I'm with ya - vive la July!!! I know I will be getting more extensive exercise what with lugging a 30# backpack around at least four more times prior to our trip on the 11th. And I can't imagine that freeze-dried meals are so yummy that I'm going to overeat. You've been doing great ... and will continue to do so!
bopeep - your ambition is amazing. Your spouse will be thrilled!
dancer - welcome back! Holding the line is a victory all its own!
patch - I'm enjoying the doggie chat that kicked off with your pic of your Sweet Puppy! We had our last dog put to sleep in February and decided to be dogless this year.
OMW - thanks for adding a pic to your avatar - you look wonderful! And big congrats on the new decade!
jelder - I've given up trying the scale dance with mine. It's stupidly certain of its numbers - some of it must be because it only measures in 1/2 pounds? Carpet, tile, grass - it doesn't care. (grrrrr)
CAT - good luck with the EKG and moving forward on getting that pesky little stone factory out of you! I have never met anyone who's professed to miss theirs, even the ones who've had to do the surgery the long, hard way.
It's been a couple of weeks since I left the 160's behind, and it looks like June was a 4# month. It's funny how it seems so horribly slow, but when I flip back to the first entry for June, there it is. No complaints - and I'm not going to do much different in July.

Hi, so far so good!
Hi all you lovely ladies! Thanks for the welcomes and advice. I lost you all for a while there, but managed to find where you had replied today. I have had a great first week. 7lbs lost Yay! I have also lost a question I aksed about cardio work. I read on a link that treadmill or bike aren't that great and that it's better to do weights as cardio. What do you all find works best?
Another question. Someone told me how to start a new thread, but I can't find that either! Where do you click?
And I guess another very good question considering I keep losing where to read replies to what I have posted, how do you ladies keep track?
Gosh I sound like a three years old....full of questions!!
I'm in the middle of a wet and cold winter, so hearing all the "go for a run before it gets too hot" comments are making me jealous!!

Hodge podge workout today I did the interval workout from Abs Diet for Women, followed by the Pilates and yoga sections {5 min each}. Jessica Smith led this one; she's very calm and soft spoken, the music and her voice are both pretty low here; the set it the Prevention set which always looks out of focus for me. The workout wasn't that exciting or interesting. March, jacks, skaters, plyo jacks, jog/walk inbetween but it was effective. Pilates was okay, along with the yoga, pretty basic, two short flows and a couple of standing poses. Yawn.
Trying to kill to newbies with one workout I added Denise Austin's Cardio Blast. I got this for $2 at Big Lots a few weeks ago. I have a problem with DA's cueing but it was okay. Her cues and the music were both pretty low {even with the TV turned up full blast!} but she's a BIG change from Jessica! I did the Kickbox and cardio intervals sections {10 each} and a few minutes of the dance but got lost and gave up!
I registered for Fitday.com. Which apparently I'm the last person on the earth to find out about. Anyway {in case I'm not the last person }, Fitday is a online site to monitor you food and activites. Punch in what you eat and what you do and the program gives you calories, nutritional info, a piechart {pie!} and how many calories you burn for each day. I've only done today and part of yesterday but its kinda fun to see everything.
Nothing yesterday , but Sun Hubby and I did some stretching together {I modelled, he followed} for his arms. He grouted the tile in our shower surround, then washed it down several times. Lucky him
Finni, Not exactly an expert here but I find I have to work VERY hard to get the same cardio effect with weights than just doing the treadmill and even then its more of a 'do cardio while holding light weights', but I can't use very heavy weights which, for me, defeats the purpose of the weightwork. I feel both cardio and weights have their place in exercise and weightloss.
-I don't post threads that often and each time I do I have to hunt the thing down again! Look under "Forum Tools"??? I'm a big help here!
-Um, keep track?? LOL, I just hit 'New Posts' and see if something sounds interesting. I did join two support groups so I know to look for them. Some people 'suscribe' to threads but I never bothered.
ICU, Sorry to heat about the loss of your pet. We had a dog when I was a child who was put to sleep at 16. He was basically my mother's dog so I had to get married before I could have another pet; my mom didn't want to go through that again. I'm not sure what we'll do without April. My SIL lost her dog and got a new one two weeks later, but she lost interest and the dog is neglected in the backyard, while my SIL has an inside cat now that she spends all her time on. I'm sure we would get another dog, but not sure how long it would take us.

Finni - I think if you just cruise around for awhile, you'll get accustomed to navigating the site. As for starting a new thread -- just be at the top level of the forum you want to post it (ie, the 40-something forum) and click the button in the upper right that says "New Thread". As for keeping track, there are only a few forums that I monitor here: 40-somethings, Weight Loss Support, Calorie Counters, Fabulous Food, Nutritious Food (or something like that), Whole Foods (or something like that). So I just jump into those forums to see if there is a thread that I'm interested in reading.
ICUWishing - I forgot to mention yesterday - I like the pork loin / roast chicken analogy to how much weight we have left to goal...
I'm glad to read everyone is trucking along with their plans. Slow is okay, we're getting there... As for me, June was a lot of fluctuations in weight around the same few pounds. BUT, looking at the positive: 5/31 I was at 167.0, 6/30 I was at 163.2 for a 4 pound loss. Breaking past 165 was a big breakthrough for me, and I don't want to bounce above it again. I exercised again today, so 2 days in a row; trying to make it a habit again...
Here's to a great July!

I just lost my whole long post that was replying to everyone. I'm sad and bummed. So here's a blanket HI to everyone and I will be back later when I won't want to dunk my laptop in the pool.

Marie, I feel your pain, that has happened to me many times!
Another great summer day. It feels so good to get things done around my house. Walked with my neighbor this morning. Spent the afternoon with DD and a friend at the pool. Swam laps, I'm hoping to get to the pool at least 3 times a week for the rest of the summer. Saw a friend I haven't seen in a while, she couldn't believe how different I look. I am finally at a point where I can see it myself.
Newleaf and ICU, 4 pounds for the month is great! Especially since you are both so close to your goal. Glad to hear you are getting back into the exercise routine, Newleaf.
Welcome back finni, I pretty much just post here, so I always go to 40's support group. Occasionally I post on general weight loss threads. Much more than that and I'd spend way more time here than I need to! It will get easier the more you are here!
patchwork, good luck finding paint! There are way too many choices when it comes to color and I find it very hard to choose. Just had our kids bath redone with new tile and fixtures. Lucky your hubby is handy and can do all that!
We usually have a BBQ at our house for the 4th. Our city has a huge fireworks display at the park and we have a perfect view from our driveway. It's a great show without the hassle of the crowd! We'll grill something and everyone else will bring something. DS and his friends have also joined us for the last few years. I really enjoy having his friends here and it's nice that they like coming and hanging out with us "old" folks!
Keep up the good work everyone! First one here tomorrow should go ahead and start the new thread!
