Default Run/Walk Exercise Thread-April

First time for me to start a thread, but I liked the March Run/Walk Exercise thread so much- I want to keep it going!

I ran for distance rather than time today. I completed my first 5k in 40 min 4 sec. I did have to walk 2x near the end for ~20sec each time to psych myself up and collect my thoughts and finish the darn thing.

I'll use this as my baseline & see if I can improve before my first 5k on Mother's Day.

Hope everyone else got April off to a good start!

My goal for this month is 1200 minutes of aerobic activity- I'll attempt to make a ticker to keep track as well

I like this thread, too! Thanks for getting it started again! Yesterday I did Week 5 Day 1 of C25k, along with some extra running and walking. Today it is supposed to be quite warm; maybe I'll get out and ride my bike.

Just a little "yay, me!" post... It is BEAUTIFUL outside today but my plans to go for a long walk or a big bike ride got thwarted by a lot of work coming in (I work from home part time). But, I needed to go volunteer for 20 min at the elementary school so instead of getting in my car, I rode my bike there. It's not too far, only 2.9 mi round trip. But there is a humongous hill right as you approach the school, and I remember that it was very difficult when I rode to school for the Halloween parade (ie, October, when I wasn't exercising at all).

It was still a big hill today, but so much more doable -- YAY!!

WTG newleaf on the bike ride! It's such a great feeling to see & feel improvement.

Did a shorter run today, but incorporated hill and I'm feeling it in my legs.

Have a great weekend all!

That's cool Heidi, I love when I get "yay" moments like that.

Well looks like I will be forced to run the streets for the next couple weeks due to the fact that one of the dogs chewed the power cord to the treadmill while I was gone. We always unplug it so he is fine but he chewed right thru it where it connects to the machine. It will be 7-10 before the new one (actually two) gets here.

Mel - You are doing GREAT!!! Excellent time for your first 5K

My goal this month is to run/walk 65 miles.

The first week of April has passed -- how's everyone doing?

This month's goal is much more reasonable than what turned out to be last month's too easy goal. The month is 23% complete and I'm 24% to my goal, so I'm right on track. No room for slacking off, which is just what I need to keep the loss going...

Chugging along here in Calgary.
My day off today so I did my running early and just did 5k in 36:04 min
I did have to walk some parts, but I'm happy that it's under 40 min. Interesting though that the first time I ran it I went with my dog, this time I didn't- could the 4 min difference be attributed to picking up after him? LOL
Just a month until my first official race, so I need to go try out the race course.

Holy Smokes!! What is up with Week 5 Day 3 of C25K?? The jump to running 2 miles without stopping, when the previous days you've only done 1.5 miles running with a half mile of walking in the middle, is huge.

Almost huge enough that I couldn't motivate myself to do it. I came up with all sorts of reasons not to, but finally told myself that if I didn't do it right now, then clearly I wasn't planning on doing it...

So I did it -- ran 2 miles without stopping! It really wasn't so hard, but the boredom factor on the treadmill is killing me...

Hello Ladies,

Hope I can chime in! Last month, I had started walking, on my good days, walking 60 minutes. Today will be rain and hoping when the rain stops will do my walking. This month,my walking regimen is on and off kinda deal..doing my best on making a habit. I get knee pain, which makes if difficult.

Have a nice day.

Hi, Liliann - welcome!

We are having rain here today, too, and it left me with no desire to get up this morning! I like walking outdoors, too... and especially with the hills that surround where I live, it's a great workout.

Good luck with your knee; have you seen your doctor about it? There was a period a couple years ago where I was having knee pain and ignoring it. When I finally went to the dr, he gave me a prescription-strength anti-inflammatory that worked wonders!

Welcome to the group Liliann.

Heidi & Mel you two ladies are kicking butt.

I'm not doing so good; I've only done 8.1 of my 65 miles. Looks like I am going to be short this month. I have decided that once the power cords arrive I will continue my runs on the treadmill. I went to run on the street again yesterday and just couldn't do it; physically or emotionally. The yard dwelling dogs break my heart and my lungs/legs greatly appreciate the assistance of a moving cushioned belt.

At this point I'll take watching TV and getting my run in.

CruiseCAT - try not to get down about the running; there is nothing wrong with limiting your running to the treadmill -- it is GREAT exercise, even if it's not quite the same thing as running on the road... Hopefully those cords arrive soon and you can get back at it! I wish I had a TV in front of my treadmill. I am bored out of my mind! I listen to music, which helps, but a TV would be much better distraction...

i wish i could run but due to a motorcycle accident it left me with only 1 bone in my leg instead of 2... so i walk on the treadmill for 2 miles daily and am trying to build up the stamina for the eliptical... i go to a gym so there is a tv attatched to every machine, all i need to bring is the headphones so thats nice... good job on the exercise everyone!
