Default Body Media/Body Fit "METs" Question

Does anyone else have the bodybugg competitor "bodyfit"? I just got one, and in my opinion it's far better than the bodybugg. One thing I can't figure out, however, (and it's not well explained) is the "mets" system. I know I can adjust it to fit at what level I feel I've hit "moderate" exercise, but I know little more than that.

Anyone have more knowledge on this?

MET stands for Metabolic Equivalent, and it is a multiplier that estimates how many times more calories you're burning as compared to your resting metabolic rate, or RMR. Let's say you burn 1 calorie per minute sitting on your couch, and 7 calories per minute on your workout - you're working at 7 METs.

Does that help?

Yes, thanks. The program lets me change the number of mets I consider "moderate activity" (by default set at 3-6) and vigorous activity (6+) to meet my exercise goals. Is there any reason I should change the settings on this? I'm not very fit, so I'm not even entirely sure I could get to 6+, or what kind of activity it would take to get there

I have never changed mine. I rarely reach vigorous activity unless I am jogging (my only intentional exercise).

One neat thing, when I first started I used to burn 1 cal per min at rest, which has increased to 1.1 - 1.3, the only time I am at 1 cal per min is when I am in a deep sleep.

Okay, there's got to be something wrong. It's saying I averaged less than one METs yesterday- how is that even possible?
