Default Victim of fraud

JCPenney has been calling me about by credit balance with them, but I don't have a credit card with them, or a credit card with anyone for that matter! I filed a report with their management and they are investigating and will call me in 48 hours. They say the charges happened in May and were at a JCPenney and a Rite Aid Pharmacy (which aren't located in Texas, where I live).
I contacted Equifax and the other credit agencies, and I am visiting my bank tomorrow to see what else I can do. Anyone have any tips for me? I am very cautious about giving out my info and am trying to be proactive about this... Thanks guys!

Aw that sux! I stopped a similar issue a few yrs ago. I was told to file a claim with your local police dept for identity theft. That way, they have the paperwork. It backs thing up. Good luck.

You can have the credit agencies put an alert on your name so that if anyone ever applies for credit under your name, you are notified.

I work in a bank and I see these kinds of things WAYYY Too often! Just make sure to file all necessary reports, get your name on the credit agency watch list and just be super careful and check your credit history often!

Thanks girl! The lady from JCPenney fraud department called me yesterday and was very helpful. They closed the account and flagged my name. She even gave me her name and number and encourage me to file a police report and give them her contact info. I feel better about it, but will be very cautious...
