Default Tip of the Day

Choose foods that are "nutrient dense" instead of "calorie dense".

Nutrient dense foods provide substantial amounts of vitamins and minerals for their caloric content. Calorie dense foods supply mainly calories and relatively few nutrients. For example, a Slim·Fast Ready-to-Drink shake is nutrient dense, with 15%-50% of the Daily Value for 24 essential vitamins and minerals in 220 calories. A glazed yeast donut, at 242 calories, is calorie dense, with only 1-17% of the Daily Value for the same 24 nutrients.

Research suggests that soy products may be influential in preventing heart disease, warding off cancer and even decreasing the symptoms associated with menopause.

Get your daily dose of soy by incorporating Ultra Slim•Fast with Soy Protein, soy milk, tofu, soy nuts or soy burgers into your diet.

Beware of any nutritional supplements that make claims such as "breakthrough" & "magical" on their labels.

Unlike food labeling, supplement labeling is not as closely regulated by any regulatory agency and may include misleading claims

Avoid soft drinks and soda as a source of hydration during exercise.

The high sugar content will slow the absorption of the liquid and the caffeine can actually dehydrate you further. Stick with water or sports drinks before, after and during exercise.

When purchasing artichokes,

scout for ones that are bright green without any black spots. Look at the stem to make certain that it is fresh in appearance. Also be sure that the leaves are tightly closed and the bottom is solid.

Tea greatly depletes your iron and the ability to retain iron from iron rich foods. This is especially important for women of menopausal age and need the extra iron and calcium.
