Default Help with Rutabaga Fries please...

Hi all!!!

Hubby and I LOVE rutabaga fries (even better than turnip fries)!!! But oh it takes FOREVER to cut them up! But that's not my problem. My problem is it's so dangerous trying to cut that HUGE vegetable in half, then in half again!! I'm so afraid the knife is going to miss one of these days!!!

Does anyone have any advice on how to cut these up any easier? Does anyone microwave or boil the rutabaga first so it's easier to cut? Also, I use a hand held ridged slicer to make crinkled fries. Is there something I can purchase to cut them into fries any easier?

LOVE THEM FRIES!!! Thx for any help!!

Okay, I got on the internet and started looking. Use a LARGE chef's knife and peel it then cut it so it resembles a square. Supposed to be easier to handle.
Can you use a food processor or julienne?

Default Yummmy

Been on IP for over a month and had my first big craving for chips. I made myself a committment of 100 days so there is no cheating allowed. I might add in something to my salad once in a while to make it more interesting (ie. Boiled egg, tiny bit of cottage cheese or a few slivers of beets ... But thats about it).

So tonite I made some rutabaga chips .... Oh happy days!!!

I also tried the kale chips ...who would have ever guessed these could turn ”chippy”!!!

Just curious...I know turnips are Phase 1 friendly, but is rutabaga?

I was told no by my IP clinic on rutabagas. I had the same problem as you with cutting those huge, hard things. I switched back to turnips for now.

According to my phase 1 sheet rutabagas are allowed.

I bought one of those ”titanium peelers” that can be used like a mandelin - makes making chips easy ... Just be careful not to cut yourself - the blade is super sharp

I've just discovered these wonderful morsels of love~! They are SO delicious. I've only used the smaller ones, they seem to be easier to slice for me....

I tried to do rutabaga fries once with a fry cutter that I bought just for that purpose and the wire slicers barely penetrated it, so no fries for me. I hope you get some advise on this. I will not do it by hand because I have 4 kids and that would take a lifetime
