Default What's a good protein shake?

The only protein shakes I have drank are Slim fast. I love having something like a shake or bar for breakfast around 8am. Then around 12:30 I eat a typical breakfast. Then I only have to worry about my dinner everyday. So what is a good shake or bar that doesn't taste bad and is 25 carbs or less?

are you looking for recipes or do you want something store-bought?

i make mine at home..mine include a scoop of whey protein powder, some splenda, splash of cream, some water, some frozen fruit and some ice cubes...in whatever proportions suit your taste...and blend til mixed...it's very low carb

I like the Special K protein bars. 25-26g carbs, 5 fiber and 10 protein.

They taste much better than some of the others I tried in which I literally spit out in a napkin. And since they have chocolate ones, I actually look forward to them. Higher calories (170-180) than some others, but the taste is worth it.

I use Syntrax Nectar. Come in a ton of flavors. (My Fav is Vanilla Bean) 100 Calories and 0 fat 0 carbs.
They taste pretty good too, I usually mix with Almond milk and frozen fruit.
They are sold all over the internet and are available at Vitamin Shop.

May I ask how to know if I should start having a protein shake? When would I need one? When I had access to a gym and would do cardio and weightlifting I'd have a soy protein shake after, it had less then 200 calories and I think 20 something grams of protein.

I do drink the powdered slim fast protein some mornings, as eating too early sometimes upsets my stomac. And it is a lot quicker and easier for when I'm in a hurry to get to work. But I don't drink it everyday.

I've said it on another post, but I'll say it again (because I love it so much!) I buy the Beachbody chocolate meal replacement shake mix. You have to buy it online and it come to around $50 after tax/shipping but it does have 30 servings per container. I am in no way affiliated with the company and do not buy any of their other products but happened to stumble upon the shake mix and WOW, so good! 130 cal per serving (before adding milk), 2g fat, 15g carbs, 15g protein. Nice breakfast shake or even for a snack!

Do you have a Trader Joe's by you? I really like the Pure Protein Frosty Chocolate Shakes there. You might be able to get them somewhere else too, but that's the only place I've seen them.

It's only 110 calories per can, so less than SlimFast I think. It has 21 grams of protein, 260 mg of potassium, 70% of the RDI of calcium, and only 5 grams of carbs. And they're pretty tasty too, as protein shakes go.

I drink them if I notice my protein intake is low for the day, especially if I plan to do a big workout at some point that day. I hope this helps!

unjury. Its AMAZING! My husband had gastric bypass surgery and so we have tried about every protein shake mix possible and this is by far the best to us. The others on here aren't too bad though.

Hands down (IMHO, at least), Jay Robb whey protein. I love the vanilla and the chocolate is pretty awesome too (I'm not a huge chocolate person but it's not intensely chocolate-y and it kinda tastes like a Frosty when mixed w/ almond milk and ice). It's somewhat pricey but totally worth it just for the taste and low calorie/carb count alone.

My 2nd favorite is Muscle Gauge Nutrition - the cake batter flavor is yummy and it's a little less $$$ than JR and around the same calorie/carb count.

I like Optimum nutrition whey protein, the banana creme is awesome! Currently I'm drinking their strawberry-banana one.

Well, I have something but it's not protein powder. 1 cup of plain Greek yogurt with 2 teaspoons of agave nectar (has a low glycemic index so it won't give you a blood sugar spike like sugar or honey) or whatever sweetener you choose, and 1 cup frozen mixed berries (I use blueberries/raspberries/blackberries.) 22 grams of protein, 9 grams of fiber and it's very filling. Easy, quick, and reallly good.

I second that. Great Great stuff. And I mix mine with water instead of milk. Still tastes good but less calories.
