Default Why Am I Hungrier At Work?

Hi All,
I don't know what it is but I am always so much hungrier at work, during the work day, than on the weekends. I have no idea why! Anyone experience this? And have any thoughts on what it could be related to? I have a desk job, btw. Thanks in advance!

Boredom, perhaps? Or the need for a distraction. I know I'm usually busy when I'm not working. When I'm at work, I can get bored and a trip to the kitchen seems like a good idea. Or if I'm busy, a little break seems like a good idea. Just a guess.

Habit? You have a history of eating with the people you work with?

You sound a lot like me!! I am hardly hungry on the weekends when I am running around and doing things, but at work it's low-key and a lot slower...and I find myself hungrier often...but it's "bored" hungry and not "hungry" hungry. I have to sit and work through that "bored" hungry feeling which is no fun.

Same problem, and I know it's boredom. I hate my job and will do anything to procrastinate, which includes frequent trips for coffee, tea, snacks, whatever.

Same here. Totally boredom. Getting up and visiting the candy dish breaks the monotony of boring days. When I'm busy at work and have plenty to do, eating isn't an issue. Sometimes I even forget the snacks I bring for the afternoon. When it's slow, like it is during the summer, snacking is a HUGE problem for me. I just want to get up from my desk and eating keeps me busy. Same thing happens when I'm bored at home.

Could you be possibly bored at work? Just a suggestion but I often feel the same. Even an hour after lunch some days, and although I stick to the plan, on weekends I tend to actually if anything eat slightly less because I am busy.Maybe make a note of when it happens and if your busy / Stressed / bored and see does it add up to something.

Another thing could maybe if you eat at your desk. If you do then your brian psychologically thinks everytime it is at its desk it will get food, (almost like a habit) and you feel hungry even though you might not actually be.

Edit: Just read the other replies and all came to the same conclusions. Are we all right or wrong?!

Yes! I think it is boredom. On the weekends, I'm running around doing things and tend to eat more sporadically. Sometimes I forget to eat altogether! And I also think its because I do tend to eat at my desk. Plus I've realized that eating gives me an excuse to stop working and take a break or avoid doing work I don't feel like doing. This all makes a lot of sense! Now I just need to create new, healthier habits. I'm thankful for discovering this site because its been helpful with that!

I'm the same way. I think it's partly brain drain, partly stress, and partly marking the passing of the day by snack and lunch times. I'm way less focused on food on my days off; sometimes I have to remind myself it's time for a snack.

ugh yeah I definitely bored eat at work... Our patient numbers have been extremely low the past few months so they have cut it back to only be one receptionist most of the day. So here I sit, 8 hours, with just me and my computer, no lunch break, and only checking in about 1-3 people an hour, and sometimes 3 or more hour breaks with no one coming in.. So basically all I get to do is sit all day.. It is sooo very boring. And since I don't get a lunch I snack aaall day long.. It is definitely because I catch myself having absolutely nothing else to do.. on top of that people from work (who are about 130 and 5'9") bring in all sorts of sweets and order meals everyday (chinese today) Really hard to stay on track with all of the distractions :// This site definitely has helped me though because I will get on here instead of running to the kitchen ;]

I feel the same! My boss always has a huge container of sweets on her desk and I go their a lot during the day to ask questions. Everyone in the office pigs out on the delicious treats and they're constantly offered to me. It's so hard to say no, but I have to...or else! Worse yet, my boss is a very petite Philippino lady 4'11" barely 100 pounds. She's the sweetest lady ever, but definitely doesn't realize the temptation for everyone else.

I get more hungry at school because I need extra energy for my brain.

I'm sitting at my desk at work right now - I know what you mean! Try and distract yourself as much as possible. Go talk to a coworker, get a drink of water, take a minute outside to call a friend. You can do it!
