I'm about 18lbs from the healthy BMI right now, I'm a shorty at 5'3 so I have more to lose. I weighed 272 at my highest and now am at 158.5.
I mostly did this by calorie counting and slowly working in more activity. At this point I go to the gym 3-4x a week and do about 40mins strength training and anywhere from 30mins to an hour of cardio. But, the single most contribution was changing my diet to low calorie and mainly low fat as well. I have been up and down on my journey for about 3 years total now, but the first 80lbs came off with diet alone in about 8 months. Hope that helps and good luck!
