Default Scale say what!?

Let me begin with a brief history.

I have been losing about a pound a week. This is good, but it was less than I had lost before, and thought it could be liked to my PCOS. I suspected that I could be mildly insulin resistant. So this week was my first full week of taking chromium and cinnamon supplements, plus cutting back somewhat on refined sugar.

Now today was my weigh in. I do so at the grocery store because they have a big fancy scale. I weigh myself as soon as I go in, and I was shocked to see that the scale showed that I had lost 3.5 lbs. I grabbed a cart and did all my shopping, but just to make sure I had seen the weight correctly, I weighed again as I left. Suddenly, it showed I had lost 4 lbs! Then, after I unloaded the groceries in my car, I returned the cart and checked once more and sure enough now I had lost 4.5 lbs! What the [redacted]?!

So here's what I'm wondering: Do you have similar issues with scales? How should I record this weight? I'm tempted to just say I lost just a couple of pounds since I'd hate to go back next week and see that it was a scale issue, not my weight that had made the difference.

If it were me, I'd be hopping back on that scale every 15 mins to watch each 1/2 pound drop off. Just kidding...

Do you have access to another scale so you can compare? Did you possibly shift your weight differently while you were standing on the scale? Sometimes, if I don't keep my head still (or arms, etc), the scale will fluctuate a half pound or so. But three different weights is definitely odd.

I have read that it is not the best to use public scales that get used a lot because they can be inconsistent. Also, in my experience it is best to use the same scale all the time because most scales will differ a couple of pounds at least.

If I were you I would not use the reading at all and try to find a better scale or if you can afford it invest in your own. I bought my scale about 3 months ago and love it! It has been really helpful with keeping me on track.

Public scales are not calibrated often at ALL unless they're in a medical office or weight loss center - even gym ones can be iffy depending on the gym. I'd find another place to do your weigh in - esp as you now know this one is not accurate at all.
