Default fat redistribution?

Someone told me that as you lose weight, your fat shifts and redistributes itself around your body. Is this true, and could this account for why I feel bigger around the middle when I am still losing weight?

I know as you age it does, I don't know about losing weight. I know your body tends to change every 7 years or so, and if you are around that age range you'll notice some differences too.

Personally, I've never lost a 'large' amount of weight, about 40 lbs or so has been my max, but I've never noticed any dramatic differences in the actual weight distribution.

With the first twenty pounds I lost, the top part of my waist lost four inches, and the bottom belly part gained two. It's now down from that, but, yes, your body can decide to rearrange its own fat sometimes.

My mom always told me that she could tell I was losing weight when my fat "stood up." I always used to get larger in my stomach and waist just before my fat began to melt away.

Something has definitely happened to my body. I was just realizing this very thing last evening. I have always had large legs and butt. Not anymore, now my legs and butt have shrunk, and I am bigger around the middle. This has never happened in any past weightloss attempts. I was always built the same. It's probably aging though, as almost every woman I have spoken to about this says it happens around menopause.

Your fat can definitely redistribute in odd ways. I started off hourglass shaped, then i was banna shaped, then i was pear shaped, and now i'm half way between banana shaped and hourglassed shaped. I honestly have no idea what shape my body will be by the time I reach goal. XD
