Default Exercise and plateaus?

A couple of times now I've tried ramping up my daily exercise and I've ended up stalling out the scale. I'm hoping someone can help me figure this out!

When I burn about 200 calories with exercise per day and eat POP, I lose consistently 2-2.5 lbs per week. If I burn more (400-500 calories per day) and eat POP my losses stall out or are quite small (0.5 lb or less per week).

I don't eat more when I exercise more. I generally try to plan out workouts to end at a time I'd be eating a regular snack. I've tried to keep everything else consistent (types of food, amount of water, timing of meals, etc) and still see the scale stall with more calories burned per day.

Any ideas?

The scale measures everything, water, tissue, muscle, fat, etc. So you could lose fat and have the scale remain the same or even go up. Also muscles tend to hold onto water as part of their recovery. And lastly, I have read that fat cells fill with water before completely emptying.

I'd say relax a bit and keep exercising and see what happens over a period of a month or so. Also, try to measure yourself once a month. That is a better determinant than the scale.

nelie: Thanks for reminding me that it's about more than the scale! I know that when I'm working out more I'm losing inches, but that's so easy to forget that when the scale stalls out. I'll try to keep that in mind and just keep on working out.

I know I double my workouts to get ready for a weekend away and saw NO RESULTS until after the weekend... I had a whoosh down of a couple of pounds. This made me think perhaps te reults from the exercise are delayed a bit.

just myself as data- nothing scientific! except that I was totally exhausted and had to take a day off from working out before my weekend away! Not sure if my body could handle that much exercise on a consistent basis.
