Default New Year's Resolutions

Every year on or before New Year's Eve (which also happens to be my birthday), I make a list of goals for the coming year. Lately these lists have taken the form of "XX things to do before turning XX" ("23 things to do before turning 23", "24 things to do before turning 24"). The new year is fast approaching, and I'm starting to think about the 25 things I'd like to do before hitting the quarter-century mark.

Will you make resolutions or goals for the upcoming year? If not, why not? If so, what will your goals be for 2011?

I'll post my list once I've thought about it a bit more.

I would really like to hit my goal weight by March cause my dh and I plan to renew our vows on our anniversary.
#2 is to do more complicated knitting and crocheting projects, I tend to stay close to the easy stuff.

my 1 year on this 'diet' is in march too. march 7.

lots of emphasis on maintaining what i've lost, losing more, and consistently exercising. with my new w/o room this should in theory be easier.

we're about to move to our first house. we're in a place with about 1000 sq.ft. now, so the new house is 2700. lots more to clean, unpacking. lots to get used to. consistently cleaning (i'm the worst at doing anything consistently) decorating.

dh and i are getting along better and i want to keep things going well.

as far as new things/challenges in fitness. i want to train for races, go hiking, wear a swimsuit and shorts proudly. that's not just this year, that's in my new life. without all that weight, and overeating, i just feel like a new person.

it feels to great to think that THIS YEAR I DID IT! it wasn't just another year i said i would lose weight, and then didn't.

I really love this idea! And it would work for me too, bc my bday is in Nov. Gives me a month after my bday to think of the next yr’s goals. Thanks for posting

I never make a resolution, because I never stick to them. But this year..I think I will make just ONE. To learn Russian (some friends & I are going to Russia in Sept.)

2011 is going to be the year I improve my posture, so I'm thinking about taking up yoga or pilates.

It's really interesting to see other people's plans for the new year!

mom4life, I also shy away from complicated (read time-consuming) knitting projects. I really enjoy knitting, but I just don't seem to have the patience for long projects. Maybe 2011 will be the year?

katy_trail, are you going to make any specific fitness-related goals? And please let me know if you find some sort of secret to consistently staying on top of the cleaning!

JessLess, whatever you're doing seems to be working well!

Shasha, I'm glad you like the idea! I hope that you post your own list once you've thought about it a bit more.

Shopaholic, where are you planning to go in Russia and how long will your trip last?

carpediem, I really like that goal. I'd never really thought much about posture before, but it really does make a huge difference in how people see you and how you feel about yourself. I hope the pilates or yoga works out!

I've been thinking about my list, and I have the first eleven things. I'll post the rest as I come up with them.

twenty-five things to do before turning twenty-five

1. hit my weight loss goal and maintain
2. learn Finnish
3. reacquire my French
4. run a 10K
5. run a half-marathon
6. stay at an ashram in India for at least a week
7. get a tattoo
8. read the Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite in Ancient Greek and translate it into English
9. participate in and finish National Novel Writing Month with a manuscript
10. go WWOOFing
11. see the Northern Lights

Nienna - I have wanted to write a novel since I was a little girl. For the last 5 years atleast I have been promising myself I will do it. Unfortunately with my busy lifestyle I never commit to it

This year I am turning 25 so let me come up with my list and get back to you.

I love this idea!

17 things to do before I turn 17:

1; Move in with my fiancé this summer.
2; Reach my goal weight before summer
and maintain it.
3; Get a job.
4; Go on a road trip with my cousin, friend,
and fiancé over the summer.
5; Not give up on my WL journey.
6; Get my tattoo altered.
7; Get a $90 vintage swimsuit!
8; Eat seafood. I've never had seafood.
9; Go to my fiancé's prom.
10; "Simplify! Simplify! Simplify!" -Thoreau
11; Get rid of all my old clothes
and buy new ones.
12; Go on an actual date with my fiancé
WITHOUT family!
13; Celebrate my fiancé and I's 3 year
anniversary (maybe on the road trip)
14; Save up money, not blow it.
15; Get a yorkie puppy.
16; Go camping for a weekend
with my family.
17; Start living my life. I'm always
holding myself back, feeling like
life is passing me by. This summer
I dare not stay indoors.

I'm not a resolution maker. I want a job within two months of moving back to the USA in August. That's it really. I also don't want to get fat again but that's going to be a lifetime struggle.

Ciao, unsupervised dates are THE.BEST.THING.EVER. enjoy!

Nienna- The plan is to go for 11 days. We're going to Moscow & St. Petersburg. Then we're going to go to Kiev, Ukraine..and Bucharest, Romania. I'm also going to visit my friend in Toronto before we leave for Russia.

I definitely make them. I have been VERY hit and miss through the years. This year, FOR SURE I will make them, because my main goal is to finish what I start!
Here is some of my list (not a prioritized list, and not complete)
1. Complete 6 races this year, including a 10K and a half marathon. (First 5K is in Feb.)
2. Make a dent in my bills.
3. Build a savings account.
4. Take at least 4 classes toward nursing school prereqs.
5. Go Kayaking
6. Find a job in the medical field to get some experience.
7. Read 24 books.
8. Start training for a triathalon.
9. Learn another language.
