Default How many pounds for a pants size?

Just wondering.. you ladies who have lost a bunch of weight already... approx. how many pounds do you have to lose to go down a pants size?? I know it's different for everyone and there are variations, but I'm interested to see what everyone averages.

I am SO ready to be out of size 20!! I can't tell you how long it's been since I wore even a size 18...pushing 10 years??? It's so TIME! And does anyone else have a 'size goal'? I'd like to end up a size 14 or so (I'm almost 6'1" so I don't think that's an unreasonable goal for my frame...)

Whoa! WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!

The closer you get to ideal weight the fewer pounds you will need to take off to lose a size. At the higher weights (as when I began) it took me about 30 pounds to lose just one size. Now, yes absolutely. Ten pounds is two pant sizes for me.

I have went as far as nearly 20lbs up or down and the size didnt change much but I wear my normal clothes (work) baggy anyway. For jeans, 5 lbs can mean fit/not fit for me however!

Well...it was odd for me so far. I started around a size 24. They got baggier and baggier, but anything smaller didn't seem to fit. I did get some "interim" pants that started out really snug and then fit sorta and they were like a 2x or something...wierd...and then at about 40-ish pounds lost, I got into a size 18 which I have been wearing all summer. These are jeans and a relaxed fit, exactly the same brand and style I used to wear in smaller sizes. I have given up on the size thing though and just hope I can get into my old jeans eventually since I have a gazillion of them.

Everyone else seems to wear smaller pants at a similar weight. And nowadays, the legs and butt get loser but the stomach stays snug. I got fat when I quit smoking just over 2 years ago and it seems that all the extra weight went to my midsection. Go figure.

Im not sure... but part of my goal is to get into my skinny jeans! Which is going to take a while, because they are about 5 sizes smaller then where Im at now.

I'm not a 40-something but this topic irritates me so I had to pop in! Even when I weighed 130 I wore a size 11 pants! For me to be a size 7 or something I'd have to be a toddler I guess. I have giant child baring hips that never go away so for me to change a pant size I need to lose like 20 or more pounds. It's super obnoxious to lose a bunch of weight and your clothes still fit. Boooo!

I started out at 302, squeezing into a size 24. I didn't get into a pair of 22's until I had lost 40lbs.

Very interesting thread. Personally I think of 'a size' as going from one size to the next, as in Misses size 12 to size 10, to size 8, etc. Maybe it's diffferent for Women's Sizing , Misses and Juniors, you think? I'm thinking 10 pounds between sizes for me.

I'd always read that it was about 10 pounds between regular sizes and about 20 pounds between plus sizes - but obviously all our bodies are different

Deb, that's sort of what I understood, too. Apparently it really does vary a lot from person to person.

For me, I'm thinking it's around 10 pounds to really comfortably move down a pant size (not squeeze in with jeans digging into waist.. ugh!). But I agree that it definitely took longer to move down a pant size when I was heavier. Of course, my pants all had stretch to them, too, so they clung better for longer.

I have lost 50 lbs. and went from a size 18 to a current size 12. Not sure if that helps answer your question or not?
