Question almost same stats, different size clothes?

I've noticed a few of us around the same weight && yet our clothes sizes are a bit different. Like Im 5'9 196lbs and just got into size 12's comfortably. I guess I dont understandwhy someone with similar body stats would be in a larger size. Maybe its cause I have no butt, that I can fit these already? Hahahaaaa. Cause I seriously have no butt... not since 40lbs ago.*sigh*

It's weird.
I'm 5'2" and 185: my elasticated-waist jean-type trousers are a UK16 but my blouses, shirts and tops are UK20-UK24.

I too have no butt (comparatively) but above the notional waist, I'm the appliest of apples, so I suppose it makes sense.

Still, I've found a couple of tops that go over some skinnyish black trousers that look young and slim and oh my, is that me?

It's the quirks that keep us going!

Hello there! I'm 5'9 and around 197 lbs. and I can hardly squeeze into size 16 jeans that I have! I have a HUGE butt...can I give you some of mine? I wish we could work somethin' out! Oh, but I also have quite a bit of a tummy too, so I can't blame it all on my behind.

I think it just has to do with our different body proportions. When I was at my smallest weight of 155 pounds, I wore a size 14-16, whereas my other friends of the same height and weight were in 12's.

I am 5'10" and when I was 197 I was still in an 18. I think body type has to do with it, as you have mentioned, but also muscle tone. I was not exercising at all at that time, so very little of that number was muscle.

It's definitely body proportion.

I have trouble fitting into slimmer 14s because of my tummy.... I think the 14s are about ten pounds away. I can fit in to some 12s-- dresses that are fitted through the bodice and then less fitted around the hips.

The other caveat is that I have noticed that clothes in different stores really fit differently....At Walmart, could wear size 14 jeans when I was over 200... at Banana Republic I'm not a 14 yet.

And also, what we mean by "fit". Some people are comfortable with a tighter fit in jeans, or a greater degree of muffin top than what I consider comfortable. (Not saying that you're like this, Scilla!). I have a big butt and heavy thighs, so I am currently wavering between 14 and 16. This is at 5'11" and 204 lbs. I'm either an XL or a large on top, thanks to the "girls". I'm hoping I lose some weight up top.

Yeah people are just built differently. I know for me it sucks so many ppl my height and weight wear much smaller sizes then me. All & I do mean like all my weight is in my belly So I have to wear a bigger size.

and yet I have no butt pfft. and I have smaller arms and small boobs so my tops are always much smaller.

I remember going shopping with my sister and sister in law and we were talking about how weird it is lol. We are all fairly close to the same sizes, heights and weights but we wear way different stuff.

I think strength training has a lot to do with this. I really do!

When I started out at 5'4" weighing 235, I was wearing 20's and I noticed a lot of same stats folks were wearing 18's and even 16's. Now, I'm on the other end of that spectrum, wearing 10's at what I think is a pretty high weight.

The pounds come off of me SLOWLY but the inches come off pretty smoothly. I blame it entirely on strength training.

The other thing to take into consideration is vanity sizing - how sizing has changed over the years. If I walk into a store and try on jeans at my current size I am certain the size number would be smaller than the size number on the jeans in my closet. The 16's in my closet are from 10-15 years ago (yes, they are old I kept them in the hopes of them fitting again and they almost fit!) so yesterday's 16 is probably today's 14. I haven't experimented yet, but I am going to.

Oh it is all proportion. We're all built differently, so while we may be the same height and weigh the same, the distribution of our fat and our natural proportion of lean mass is going to vary wildly. An apple and an hourglass might weight the same, but there's likely going to be a good two or three sizes between their favorite pants, because one has a lot of her weight in her waist and one does not, and clothing is cut a certain generic way that fits one shape better than another.

And then if you go and try to a fit a whole baby into the pants, well that just changes it all together.

Sorry, couldn't resist a bit of a tease! You're doing so great!

Lets just say the pants I fit into the last time I saw this weight on the scale (approx. 224 right now) don't have a snowball's chance of closing, these days
