I've lost 10 pounds in 20 days. Is this good? Bad?
Please help me gauge how things are going...
I started out at 294 in early June and had a HUGE loss thanks to water weight. 20 days ago, I was 286. Now I'm 276, a loss of about half a pound per day. I feel wonderful, not tired or hungry. I work out 1-2 hours a day and my body is feeling good.
When I lose weight, it tends to come off quickly and then something happens and I stop my efforts and it all comes back on. I'm doing everything possible to keep going strong and lose the weight for good.
Is this amount of loss in this amount of time okay? I don't see how I could cut back exercise or even add more calories, since I'm feeling so darned GOOD. I plan on making this level of exercise a permanent part of my life (my big dream is to be a marathon runner), so it's not like I'm working myself to death just to lose weight, and then won't do anything later on...

You should be fine. Initially part of it is water weight. Also, the more overweight we are, the higher the actual fat losses are at first too.
Just remember that every month won't be this dramatic all the time, but enjoy it for what it is -- a good start!
HTH!

It's a great and encouraging start: even waterweight - who needs it!? You know yourself you won't lose 10lbs EVERY 20 days, so be mentally preparing yourself for when the scales stand still - That's the key time, when it's so easy to get down and to give up. Just out of interest, how many calories are you eating?

I'm eating 1600-1800 calories a day. I give myself that extra 200 cushion just in case I feel like I need it, but usually around 1600 is fine for me.

Thanks for your feedback. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't overdoing it. I've lost 18 pounds altogether in 6 weeks and I'd really like to know how much of it is water weight!! I'm definitely enjoying it for now... I know one of these days things will slow down.

Thanks, I was just curious, as we're the same height. I'm eating 1400 at the minute - but it's my 500th attempt at losing weight, so I don't think I would lose if I ate any higher, I have the feeling my body's befuddled!
I should have thought that you're well into fat loss by now. 18 pounds is magnificent.!

I think its fine! The first little while always is the easiest as far as the scale moving. But it will slow down. So like others have said, just be prepared for it, and don't let it discourage you so much that you quit! You should be happy and proud though!

me too...
Well, I am new here...
I started this new way of life on July 17th. I weighed in last Sat. and had lost 8 lbs.. My official weigh in day is tomorrow, but this morning I was down another 5, so I am losing about a pound a day... (for the first 2 weeks), so I would tend to think that's pretty normal.... I set my calorie goal between 1800-2000, but there were some days I went over a little (around 2200) and 2 days where I ate just under 1600. I am really just focusing on stopping before I am over-full, and if I am hungry and have already had plenty of calories for the day, eating fruits and veggies until I am full....
Can't wait to do my official weigh in tomorrow.
