Default Sodium Intake...

I've been tracking how much sodium I've been eating and I am definitely going over the recommended 2300 mg/day. I still have a lot of weight to lose, so I guess I never realized that the salt could be causing some of the "bloated" look. Does anyone else track sodium? How does it affect you?

I guess I'm just confused because I've lost 24 lbs already but I always thought salt would have inhibited that.

I am salt sensitive. My ankles get puffy when I consume too much salt. Yes, I have kept track of my sodium intake before. I try to keep it in check, doesnt always happen though.

Rice Diet Program is very low sodium.

And yes, sodium makes ya bloat.

How much are you consuming?

I find anytime I eat out I go over the 2300 mg. The days I eat at home I'm hitting like 1800ish.

If I get over 3000 mg I definitely see a gain.

Are you eating alot of processed or premade foods? I've had to really cut back on my processed/premade and restaurant foods in exchange for whole foods. I can't believe how much sodium is packed into everything these days. Its frustrating.

If I do have to buy something processed, (canned goods for cooking, etc) I always look for no salt added foods. Thankfully they are becoming more and more available now that the public is demanding them.

The recommended amount of sodium is no longer 2300 mg a day. It has been lowered to 1500. Most of the sodium we need can come from our foods, for example celery is high in sodium. It can affect blood pressure adversely, the heart, and other organs. Too much also overworks the kidneys.
