Phase 1 completed - Bummed - Am I unrealistic?
Hi there all, I just completed Phase 1 and lost a total of 6 pounds. I stuck to the diet and exercised.....I am so bummed. I though I was going to lose more than that. Now I am considering going back to the usual Low Fat - Low calorie diet! I weigh 177 and I am 5' 6" tall so there is obviously weight there that needs to go. What do you all think? Should I hang in there and do a few more weeks of Phase 1 and see how it goes? I am really needing some encouraging words!! Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks

I think 6 lbs is great! I only lost 7 during Phase 1. I'd stick with it, you are doing just fine.

Thanks. I will hang in there! I found another thread where a woman had the same outcome and it seems as though 6 pounds is a good number. I guess I was just hoping for more. I have to remember that I didn't put on this weight overnight!!

First of all to The Beach!
I'd love to knock off Dr A (or his publicist) for putting in "Lose 7 to 13 pounds" in Phase I!!! That's just not true for everyone, especially those of us who have been following other plans or have less than 50 pounds to lose.
One thing that helps folks is to check in here every day. You might also post a typical day's menu in case we spot anything amiss.

6 lbs. in 2 weeks is amazing. It's true that you don't have a whole lot of weight to lose, but don't get discouraged...if you stay on plan for 6 months you will be so close to your goal.

Hang in there, but go to phase 2 if you completed a clean phase 1.
Start adding a few berries one day, a little whole grain another and see how you react to it. Staying on phase one longer is not really a good way to go.
6lbs is great!!!!!! Do this for your health and not your weight...the weight is just a great benefit in this way of eating.

You're not alone. I only lost 6 pounds during phase I, but it works...stick with it and you'll see!

I only lost 2. Stick with it!! You may have bigger losses at the beginning of phase 2. That's what happened to me.
Even if you don't have a woosh coming up, 6 pounds is great!

6 pounds is great! That's 3 pounds a week, which is a really great loss! I was also a little discouraged about my weight loss so far - I posted my meals for one day, it was quite helpful to see where I could tweak my diet further. And just think.. no counting calories.. definitely my favorite thing about South Beach!

Hey, that's fabulous!! You don't have much weight to lose, neither did I. I lost 6 lbs the first week and gained one back the second. Talk about disappointing! But, I stuck with it, and it has worked great for me, and many of the ladies here. I wouldn't stay on Phase I though, you probably would get bored and tend to give up completely.
Good luck! Welcome to our group!

Ruthxxx, I agree with you about the book stating 7 - 13 pounds in Phase 1. It made me feel like I failed because I had only lost 6.
