Default My 1st Plateau

OK tell me if I undereat my calories eventually my body will have to let go and start losing again!

I've been at or right around 244 lbs for three weeks now. Last week, as in 8 days ago, I took my daily calories down from 2150 to 2050, no results yet, I guess I'll give it until the end of the week and see if it helps.

According to all the calculators, my maintenance weight calories should be around 2500 now, so you'd think 2050 would be enough of a deficit to at least move the scale one or two pounds by now! Sheesh.

I'm not willing to exercise more than I already do, because I can't keep it up forever. If by the end of the week I am still at 244, I'll knock another 50 calories off.

I have been "zigzagging" a little, perhaps I could do it more to the extreme.

Would like to hear other plateau stories!

I'm wondering if I'll be up against this every 25 lbs I lose...

If your maintenance calories are 2500 and you are eating 2150 calories, you only have a deficit of 350 calories a day or about 7/10ths of a pound a week. Even increasing your deficit to 450 a day for the last 8 days only increases that a little. The most you can expect to have lost in this 3 weeks is 2 - 2.5 pounds. Unfortunately, a 2-3 pound loss is easily masked by water retention. The good news is that you will probably get a small whoosh soon and lose those 2-3 pounds.

Thanks Valerie, that makes sense. At first I was losing a pound a week, at 2150, for quite a while, but I knew my calories will have to be ever-decreasing to keep up that pace.

I don't mind losing a pound a week, but anything less than that feels too slow to me. I may see if I can take it down to 2000 next week and "live" there for a month.
