Red face We have puppies

Our adopted dog gave birth Saturday morning. There are 9 total. We got her 3 weeks before she gave birth. The day before I questioned if she was really due any day....guess we know I was wrong. LOL
So now that the waiting it over, now all we do is go through the puppy phase and wean them to get them ready to adopt them out. Then to get her fixed. the shelter said they would still pay to have her fixed 3 months after she had her pups.

Wow! I really do have to say that you are an angel to the pups and their momma. I can't even imagine how hard it'd be to have pups in the shelter. Hopefully you are doing well and the momma and the pups are doing well.

Awwww, you're so awesome!!!! I'm a ridiculously huge animal lover and I think it's amazing that you're caring for all those pups. I second DogMomNP, pictures are definitely needed!

Thank you, you all are sweet. To tell you the truth this is a first for dh and I so we're taking it one day at a time. [I've had cats give birth but not dogs] So far it's been easy because mom is doing all the work. She's doing a great job.
At the moment we're giving her her space and ony tending to her when she needs it. If we even go near her she wants to come greet us and is eager to please. So hoping to get pix soon.
Dh went from "we're adopting all the pups out." to "We might keep 1-2." I think he's in love with one. I also have my eye on one. so I guess our plans on selling our home will be put on hold. LOL

Almost forget, she's a full blooded German Shephard. At the moment maybe time will tell, we'l know what the other mix the pups have. Right now they look 100% cute

My first dog experience was my grandmother's german shepherd. She had him from before I was born till I turned 6 y/o. He was an awesome watch/guard dog and so loving and caring with me.
One of my aunts got a german shepherd from a bad breeder when I was 8. he bit me on the thigh, I still have the tooth marks on the upper and lower part of my thigh. They put him down for fear of my mom pressing charges. To this day, I blame the breeder not the dog. I call my scar "My love bite," from my favorite breed.
soon after dh and I got married we adopted a shepherd mix and he was a cool dog. I always told my dh that my goal was to own a german shepherd. So when I saw a pic of Annie on the site of our local shelter, I had to see her. true my older son and I were in the shelter dog run for an hour making sure she was the right fit. Mind you it was 14 degrees out but it was worth it.

Wow... puppies and 4 kids? #5 on the way? You're one busy lady and far braver then I. Good for you for adopting a pup and a pregnant one to boot, I bet she was a lot more comfortable having them at your house then she would have been at the shelter.

My favorite rescue breed is border collie crosses, they're insanely fast on the agility course.

I love border collies, especially watching them on agility courses.
Honestly, if I know she was pregnant I don't think we would've adopted her. but since we did and no one told us at the shelter that she was, we assumed she just had her pups and was abandoned.
So when we found out she was, we thought about taking her back just because of the stress of having to separate her and our other dog. She became very protective of us and would get into fights with the other if he came around either of us. I couldn't handle the thought of taking her back just because she was pregnant even though it was stressful. She is a great dog and mom, why judge her because she's pregnant? So when she gave birth dh and I were so very relieved because the pregnancy part was over, now we just have to wait for them to grow.
When they open their eyes dh says its very important for us to socialize them, so that'll be a blast for the kids to play and run with them.
The hardest thing for me will probably be when we have to adopt them out. The mom or hormonal part will come flooding out. LOL But like I said we'll probably keep 1-2 pups. we starting to think that they might be crossed with Boxer. a few have a white tummy and the brown body and dark faces. We'll see.

Hahah... my Border Collie cross loves watching agility too, he gets super excited when other BC's or high drive dogs run.

It's tough dealing with someone else's mess, I agree. Even harder because it's in no way the dogs fault. I applaud you for stepping up to the challange

Hopefully her protective issue calms down once her hormones do! Yikes! Socializing is so important with puppies, but they need to have shots before you can take them out. Check with your vet and/or a trainer, puppies have a peroid in their life when it's best to socialize them.

Is she ready for pictures yet?
