33 pounds lost
15 more pounds to go till the half-way mark. I'm now 243, so I've lost 33 lbs. When I started this diet I was at 276 and before that, I had gotten up to 287 or so-- nearly 300 pounds.
Being as tall as I am, it is easy to carry around that extra weight without looking overweight. That's a curse, because I could weigh 200 pounds and not feel overweight at all. At 287, It was extremely hard bending and walking. I had suffered a broken leg and had a heck of a time regaining the use of my leg-- it could have been because I was so heavy.
I really started the weight loss journey after I was diognosed with high blood pressure last year. I was told by several medical individuals that I had "dangerously" high blood pressure and other than putting me on a lifetime's supply of pills, they all told me to "lose weight." I felt there was a heart attack in the future for me.
Easier to say than to do, but I tried, first going vegetarian, and when that did not work, turning 360 degrees and going Atkins-style low carb.
I had a lot of depressing things going on. I lost the house, was fired from my job and all the rest, and felt totally useless and a waste of human flesh. I totally hated myself and really didn't care whether I was fat or not.
Now of course, the sunshine is coming through and I am seeing the real value to being in the Normal weight range. I used to camp and walk trails a lot and the weight was making this hard-- bending down to put on socks was hard. Last year, after moving to Lincoln, I started taking the dogs to the dog park almost every day, and walked several miles per day. There's a little stream there, and I was even afraid to cross the stream on the rocks because my feet were so heavy and out of shape. I remember for months I would just wade across the stream, then about the end of the summer I could balance from rock to rock. I'd forgotten about that.
