funny you should ask
Just as I pulled up your post, I heard Diane Sawyer on the nightly news reporting on a new study showing if everyone limited their sodium intake to just a tsp. per day, we would prevent 120,000 new cases of heart disease per year..the problem with salt isn't the temporary water wt. gain..it is the fact that sodium makes your arteries less elastic, less stretchy, and that leads to high blood pressure and heart disease.
None of this is new news. The AMA is trying get the FDA to consider sodium an additive to better be able to regulate it. It is a big darned deal no matter what diet any of us are following. The worst part is, it is in everything. The otherwise healthy whole wheat bread I love has 220 mg. of sodium in one delicious slice. *sigh. If we are to stick to 2400 mg. or less, that is a tenth of a day right there...Beware.
