Default Update-Had a gain and was expecting a nice loss!!

well to be honest I am not pleased at all with this weeks weigh in. I am about to start my period so I didn't expect to lose a lot or even maybe gain a tiny bit, but I gained 1.5 lbs. I was so good this week and did stepping on the wii 4 times this week for 30 mins each. I was feeling like I'd lost weight. So I'm totally bummed this morning. I know I need to just keep doing what I'm doing and it will eventually come off, but it really makes me want to go get a big mac!!!

204
200.3 wk 1 -3.7 lbs
198.7 wk 2 -1.6
198.5 wk 3 -.2
198.1 wk 4 -.4
199.2 wk 5 +1.1
197.1 wk 6 -2.
wk 7 didn't weigh in
197.5 wk 8 +.4
198.9 wk 9 +1.5

Updated to add my NSV I measured myself today. Even though in the last month my weight hasn't changed, well down, then back up. I have lost 1 1/2 over different parts of my body. So that is encouraging even though the scale hasn't budged, although with AF here now I'm hoping for a nice loss next monday. I'll keep you posted!

Don't do it! Hang in there. Have you measured to see if you are losing inches?

It's been years sine I've had TOM but I always gained before and then had a whoosh. Lots of water and clean eating will get you through. It'll happen.

VERY discouraging. I feel for you. I agree with others about measuring, I wish I had done it when I started. (will do it today I think). Anyway, try to think of all the other reasons this WOE (NOT diet) is working for you. For me, besides the weight loss, I just feel so great emotionally and physically. I'm in a "zone" of getting myself organized and getting rid of clutter, including weight clutter and emotional clutter around eating. I just CANNOT eat refined carbs responsibly, and that's ok. We were never really meant to eat refined carbs to begin with. They serve absolutely no purpose healthwise. However, if I don't eat refined carbs, I can trust myself around food - that is a huge revelation to me. I'm not binging on fat and I'm willingly eating lots of veggies. I do not feel deprived at all (except for the party yesterday) and I feel at peace with myself and my eating. When I was doing WW I became obsessed with food and was eating so much processed food (because I could fit it in with the points, right?) and I was just generally so unhappy with myself and my eating. Now I feel calm and in control. One day at a time and just keep with it if you feel it is working for you in other ways besides weight loss.

Thanks!! I do feel better eating this way. I've had more energy and just feel healhier!! I was (half) joking about the big mac. I am going to measure myself today. I don't measure every week, but do have some from weeks back to compare to. Thanks for the encouraging words, I needed them this morning!!

Wow! What wonderful advice for anyone gaining or hitting a plateau. I have noticed the same thing about myself even though I just started dieting about 2 weeks ago. I am in the zone too, getting organized, cleaning out clutter, feeling calmer. Thank you for your post.

With me, when I exercise (at all but mostly when I used to fit in an extra workout here or there), I gain. I know a pound is a pound and I do my best to drink water but I find no matter how well I am drinking and eating, when I start exercise, I gain or stall for a bit.

Hang in there. Hopefully, eating and drinking well will get you over TOM and this small gain!

Jenn, I do too! Not if it is very gentle exercise, i.e. walking, but if it serious exercise like strenous cardio, or weights, I always gain a pound or two or don't lose at all. I read somewhere (where? I can't remember) that when you start a serious exercise program and build muscle your body retains water to help form the muscle in its early stages and that you should NOT expect to lose any weight (on the scale) for a month after you start a vigorous exercise program. You will lose inches however. Where did I read this??? Wish I could remember, but it was definitely a reliable source like Dr. Oz perhaps.

That's why I weighed myself every day , so I didn't get so discouraged. FWIW, I started running after being on SBD...and any time I weighed myself the day after a long run, I was always heavier. Also, if I had salty foods. Hang in there!!

(and I did measure myself...definately a help!)

I agree with everyone else! Hang in there! Also, I would just double check your eating, I know for me after a few weeks I can start slipping if I don't write everything down and continue to be very cautious about what I eat... especially after I start losing a little... fitday is free and there are several other sites like it out there... try putting your meals in for a few days and see how your stats look! Are you getting all your veggies/beans in? eating salty foods? there are soooo many things that can be affecting your loss... BUT, if you are doing everything right it will come off! Just be patient and stick with it!

Briggsy, remember what a mod's signature line says: "We use the scale because it's the most convenient tool, not because it's the most accurate." With the water gain that comes with your TOM, you will often see changes in the scale that don't make sense. Weigh in next week and remeasure...I bet you lose pounds AND inches!

As for the Big Mac, go watch Supersized. You'll never crave one again. And remember this wonderful bit of wisdom from another mod (one of our fantastic maintainers): "Right now I'm sad. If I go and eat _____, I'll be pudgy and sad."

Laurie -- not to be a smart@ss but I watched Super Size and others like it and still crave the Big Mac (well, 1/4 pounder). Haven't had one in months but the movie does not deter me!
