I May Not Be Able To Lose 150 Lbs. Tomorrow, But...
We all know how this one goes, I'm sure. We'd all love to have the excess weight gone with a snap of our fingers, but it's not healthy, and it's not possible. As much as we want to find that perfect solution, it ain't happenin', people. :-P
So for right now, let's look at it this way. I may not be able to lose 150 pounds all at once, but I can lose 30 pounds 5 times. Or 5 pounds 30 times. Or 50 pounds 3 times. Or 3 pounds 50 times!
Look at all the different ways I can lose the weight! And it's so much easier than 150 pounds 1 time! (and a **** of a lot less daunting)
Now you try it. How many times can you lose a few pounds until you've reached that Ultimate Goal?

I can't lose 128 pounds tomorrow, but I can lose...
32 lbs 4 times... 16 lbs 8 times... 8 lbs 16 times... 4 lbs 32 times...

I've decided I'm going to lose 50 pounds 3 times. Each time I hit the 50 pound mark, I'm going to try just maintaining for a little while. This may sound counterproductive, but this is my reasoning:
1. A lot of people lose a ton of weight all at once, and have a hard time dealing with having a new body. I figure if I do it gradually like this, it'll be easier to deal with having a new body.
2. Buying a whole new wardrobe costs lots of moola I just don't have. I'll get a few new things every 50 pounds, and just alter the clothes when I reach that ultimate goal.
(I suppose I could try to just alter the clothes I have now, but I have a feeling the other way would work out much easier!)

Going slow is definately the way to go... whether or not you deliberately try to stop and maintain, I think going slow is key. All those crash diets don't really work in the end because you don't actually take the time to learn how to live healthier. Slow allows you to get to know yourself at each step of the way, learn how to cope with the ups and downs, and gets you used to your new body.

great idea. i can lost 35lbs 2 times, 17lbs 4 times, or 14lbs 5 times. it is sooooo much easier trying to lose a lot of weight by breaking it down into mini goals like this. i already have a bunch of mini goals but i love the idea of your math...i'm so going to be adding this to my blog!

I just look at 5 pounds at a time. I don't even think about how many times I have to lose 5 pounds, still too overwhelming, but I can lose 5 pounds one more time! To date, I have lost 5 pounds 17 times.

I want to lose 10 pounds ten times! I like this thread!
To answer your other question, I work out at home with the On Demand free workouts on the Exercise channel.

I think thats how I will try to do it... 5lbs at a time. I get so overwhelmed when I think about how much i have to lose. It is so hard to stay motivated.

It really is hard that way. My biggest hurdle is the amount of time it's going to take. I think "My gosh, I don't want to wait a whole year (or however long) to be thin!", and then I quit.
Then a year later, I think "Had I not quit, I'd be thin right now."
BAM. That's when it hits you like a ton of bricks. A YEAR REALLY ISN'T THAT LONG.
Just do it. Pretend like it's no big deal. Be nonchalant in your thinking about it. "Yeah, I'm on a diet. I'll be thin and healthy in like, a year or so. See ya then."
:-)
