Default Special K vs. Reeses Puffs?

Ok this is crazy, but last night i had to choose between 2 cereals, Reeses Puffs or Special K Strawberrys and Yogurt....so i read the two labels, and Reeses puffs only has 10 more calories, more iron, calcium, zinc, and vitamins, as well as less sugar and the same amount of carbs, only 1 more gram of trans fats...etc...then Special k!

So Reeses Puffs cereal, depending on your diet, could actually be better for you then Special K! Crazyness!

Cereals really are an eye-opener. There are so many seemingly healthy, cereals aimed at adults, that are higher in fat and sugar than the sugary children's cereal we suspect aren't healthy.

Some of them are essentially cereal mixed with candy bar pieces - or what might as well be candy bar.

If the cereal name contains the word "clusters," especially "granola clusters" there's a good chance it contains a lot of sugar and/or fat.

Reeses puffs - gotta have them! Especially since the nutritional counts between cereals are usually so similar and lets face it, sometimes ya just gotta have a little FUN! Dieting always seems so SERIOUS, so if you can find something that works into your plan that you can manage, why the heck not?

i cant eat any type of cereal because im never satisfied with the portions and always want a second and third bowl. its a major addiction issue with me. i even do it with cheerios. something about the combo of the carbs and the milk.

Cereals are heavily fortified with vitamins which is why they may have a lot of vitamins. It is like adding a vitamin pill to a candy bar basically. I think very few cereals are good for you but there are some that are decent, shredded wheat is pretty decent since it has no added sugars (we buy the Trader Joe's brand).

Even the seemingly 'healthy' cereals, really aren't. One of my favorites when I was young was cracklin oat bran, it is packed with sugar!

I would choose Special K (Kellogs brand) any day over Reese Puffs (General Mills brand) as General Mills cereals use preservatives and additives that are known cancer causing agents where as Kellogs do not use these particular preservatives. I would also just stick with the regular Special K and add my own fruit to it so as to be sure of not getting the extra sugar and preservatives they use to make the "fancier -marketing friendly" varieties more tasty.

When I was kind of halfway dieting, I'd eat cereals like Special K and Honey Bunches of Oats.

Now I eat grape nuts and shredded wheat cereal. It's probably not THE best thing for me, but it's whole grain and an easy thing to fix for the morning. I eat my carbs and fruits for the day in the morning for energy. Plus, 1 cup of shredded wheat cereal + 3/4 cup milk is really filling for me

The problem for me is that reese's puffs can be a trigger. Even if I know I'm not eating bad things, I still feel like I am, so my natural reaction is to eat more!

That's how I am. I don't think I could eat just 1 cup of Reese's Puffs, or whatever the serving size is.

Shoot, I could probably keep pouring Reese's puffs in my bowl until all the milk was gone, lol.

Nope, I don't think I need to get any, hehe.

There is nothing Special about Special K! It's all marketing - as you saw by looking at the labels, you could lose weight eating a serving of just about any cereal in place of a regular meal a few times a day. They make you feel like you are being virtuous by eating it, but honestly, it's not a whole lot different than any other cereal out there. Good for you for seeing through the hype!

I eat Weetabix and steel-cut oatmeal and that's it. Cereal is such a frankenfood that I don't even bother with it. All cereal companies have modified the grains, "enriched" them, mashed them up, made them look pretty ... I don't trust those companies at all.

Costco has these individually frozen portion sizes of steel cut oatmeal that are soooo yummy! They come in two flavors, fruit filled (real fruit, not just flavored) and maple. There are minimal ingredients, it's really good, really filling and if you warm up one portion at a time, no risk of overeating. I love them!
