Default The Promised December Exercise Thread

Welcome!

Last month many of us set exercise goals for December -- and guess what? It's here!!!

In this forum, we're setting the number of MINUTES we want to exercise for the month -- whether it's walking or swimming or housework! Remember December is really 4.5 weeks long, but full of holidays, so plan accordingly!!

I am pleased to report that I walked for 45 minutes yesterday to SURPASS my November goal!

For December, I decided to set a lofty 600 minute goal (for me anyway!). My husband and I will be joining a gym next week (!), so I'm going to allow treadmill and eliptical for now, and see what happens there. Today I hopped on the treadmill for 30 minutes to start off December.

Frankly, I think the accountability helped. I don't know if I would have done it if I weren't posting here!

How's everyone else doing? If you would like to join us, hop aboard... and you can join anytime -- if it's 2 weeks in, just set a goal for the rest of the month!!

So far, I'm 100% in December--I walked 30 minutes yesterday. My goal is 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. My super goal is to do 30 minutes every day in December!

I just saw this thread and I would love to join. My exercise that will count toward my goal is walking on the treadmill. Maybe if I can commit to that then I will add workout videos and what not next month. I seem to have a hard time making myself exercise. I hope that this will help. I will set my goal at 500 mins. Good luck to everyone. I hope that we all meet our goals.

Jen -- What a great supergoal. I honestly don't think I could commit to that, but I will try to be here to rah-rah you every step of the way -- keep counting those minutes, and congrats on Day 1!

Welcome, Manda! Glad to have you aboard! I hope this helps all of us -- a little accountability and a few dancing carrots can't hurt!

Default Let's Get Moving!

Ladies!! (I think we are only ladies so far)

I'm not seeing a lot of posts here (go Jen!), so I thought I would review our initial goals -- feel free to come on back and change em around (some seemed more sure than others...), confirm, deny, etc. Let's get moving!

Don't forget, December is 4 1/2 weeks long, but for many (most) has a bunch of parties and holiday time...

Valerie -- 400 minutes of walking

Lori -- 320 minutes of walking

Brandnewme -- 400 min walking; 250 stretching [nice idea -- maybe more of us should include this!]

Mboeh -- 390 minutes walking

Sheri -- 75 minutes walking -- week 1 -- want to say 300 for the month?

Brenda -- 840 minutes swimming and 280 minutes general
[though you said 4hrs/week swimming, which is 960 and 80 min/week general, which is 320. let us know!)

Sharon (V) -- 600 minutes aerobics/toning/walking

Dogpal -- 400 minutes walking [you GO!!]

Ammi -- 300 minutes aerobics [though I know you said you might drop out? ]

Jen -- 360 minutes walking [though you are fired up and have a super goal -- GOO!!!]

Amy -- 780 minutes walking

Andrea -- 700 minutes walking/exercise ball/elliptical

teahoney -- 720 minutes (at least!) walking

Manda -- 500 minutes walking

Others seemed less sure

Swallowedupinfire -- you were thinking 75-150/week, but that seemed like a lot? want to just say 60 min/week? so, 240 total? If it seems like a lot, break it down into days, maybe, and think about how a little can become a lot!

Christine and elmay, I was less sure of your goals!

My goal: 600 minutes cardio (treadmill or maybe elliptical).

LET'S GET MOVING!!!!!!

OH! I have another idea!

How about we keep a cumulative total of our goals for the whole group, so we can see just how many minutes we ALL exercise???

So far, I'm at 30 min and Jen is (I believe) at 60.

When you report your exercise -- add to the total at the bottom of your post!!

300+ GROUP EXER-TOTAL: 30 + 60 = 90

I actually only looked in here cause I say ThinThinker had posted, and I thought "this I gotta see!!!" Sorry Thin, you know we love you! But decided to join even though December has already started.

For those of you who do not know me, I'm Ageoldie/Barbg and I've been posting here years. Exercise was my main thing. I went to the health club every morning and worked away, walking the outdoor trail, doing water aerobic classes, even working with a trainer for a while. But this year my live has been turned upside down with the closing of our business necesitating DH oleAlvin and I both finding jobs and the death of my mother whom I was extremely close to in Sept. So since July my exercise has been erratic to say the least, almost non-existant.

But now things are settling down into a kind of routine and I have to get serious about exercise first, then maybe I can get serious about my diet. I like the idea of so many minutes a month. I am going to steal Valerie's formula and commit to 400 minutes for the month of December. As to what type of exercise, I am not going to be specific on that. I am lucky enough to be a member of one of the most comprehensive health clubs in the Dallas area, probally the whole US. We have a beautiful outdoor track, two full size swimming pools and indoor track, at least 2 differnt weight/circuit machine area, a spinning room, 3 exercise studios and any equipment known to man. I will count my hours/minutes for time spen exercising at the club, doing whatever I feel like doing, but at least DOING SOMETHING other than sitting here in my chair!!!

I motivated myself! I exercised for 31 minutes, so:

300+ GROUP EXER-TOTAL: 90 + 31 = 121 minutes

Hi all, I did nothing yesterday, had a migraine for a week but walked for 4 hours Christmas shopping today. I will do 30 mins tomorrow to make up for that which I missed last week through being ill. 600 mins sounds like LOADS of exercise, but I suppose taken in small nibbles/bites it makes it less daunting.

best wishes,
sharon

Hi everyone,

Wyllenn: thank you so much for putting this together and for putting so much work into it. I know it takes time and is some work. For December 1st I did 20 minutes of hard house cleaning. For December 2nd I did 30 minutes of walking.

300+ Group Exercise total 121 + 50 Dogpal minutes = 171 Minutes so far

Dogpal -- Thanks! And good work!

Sharon -- Add to the group's counter when you get a chance (though I don't know if we should count shopping in the total! )

Anyone got a guess as to how many minutes we can all wrack up together??? (I have some ideas... if everyone helps!)

Hi ladies! I've walked a total of 60 minutes so far, and have done 30 minutes of stretching.

300+ Group Exercise total 171 + 90 of my minutes = 261 minutes so far

Awesome, brandnewme! Let's see how fast we can get to 1000 minutes!

300+ group total = 261 minutes so far + what you've done!

Can I join in here too? I've been here (300+) for a while, but recently changed my username (from hippygoddess to leanneAU). I've been trying to get back to exercising more.
I would like to commit to 800 minutes of exercise during December as well. This will end up mostly being deep water walking, as this is the best exercise for me because I have arthritis problems.
So far (its Sunday 4th December) I've done 40 minutes deep water walking on Thursday 1st, and 60 minutes yesterday (3rd). So that's 100 minutes so far for me.

300+ group total = 261 minutes + 100 of my minutes = 361 minutes so far
