Over the last few years I've slowly lost down to 304 (30 lbs of it during the past year), but I want to lose it more quickly and permanently. I've committed myself to making the lifestyle changes needed to become healthier and lose the weight. At this point, I know I've started a long and difficult journey, so I've joined up here to learn and share with other people that are traveling this road as well.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU - My highest weight was 320 last year....at the doctor's office. It was probably higher at some point. I have had some struggles with depression over the past decade and those medications are brutal! Not that I don't take reponsibility for my overeating and bad habits....But anyway, I am in a really good place right now and have been keeping a food journal for over 6 months. I wasn't doing anything with it, but just writing everything down. Finally two weeks ago I was ready to just do it! I bought scales and was pleasantly surprised that since last October when I weighed 320 at the dr's office, I was 306. So after spending some quality time reading this website, along with many others, I got excited and inspired about healthy eating. There's a lot of trial and error, but I think that I'm finding my way and managing to keep things within a cal/fat limit as well as trying to hit the 25 g of fiber daily. I also got a book by Judith Beck about changing how you think....to think like a thin person. Just taking it all in!!!! I'm glad to be here!!!!!!

I go part-time at Dq and work on my business fulltime!
STARTING WEIGHT -362 at my physical April the 3rd. As of today, I'm down 11 lbs!

It changed everything for me, every part of who I was. I am slowly getting back on track. Karl and I want to have children and I know that time is of the essence. I know that to truely succeed, you have to want to do it for yourself, but, wanting a baby is my motivation.

and
"Being fat is an ailment. I'm sick I tell ya! Someone bring me a sandwich!" -Drew Carey
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU - I love to laugh and cut up. Sometimes I use humor as a shield to block people from seeing my inner emotions. I lie to myself a lot when it comes to my weight issues because I'm so ashamed and disgusted with myself. Ironically, everytime I think about how big I am, I reach for nearest bucket of ice cream or cookie. I weighed myself yesterday and hit the 300 mark and even as I wrote down my plan of action to lose weight, I grabbed a plate of the KFC my brother brought home. I just need a lot of support and self control. I can get one of my needs here, the other I have to do for myself. It's time I take off the blinders and start working my way to a healthier me.

DATE - Started recent diet on April 14th
USER NAME -gaia33
SIGNIFICANCE OF YOUR USER NAME - I took in a feral tabby cat. I had never "understood" cats and she sat me down and taught me "cat 101". lol When she had her first litter of kittens (she was too wild to be caught) she was such a good mother--and even accepted a kitten that wasn't hers, that I named her "Gaia" one of the ancient (pre-Olympian) Greek goddesses that was worshiped as the mother of everything. Gaia (my cat) wanted to "mother everything" and eventually became a very sweet lap cat. I had her for 10 years. She was amazing and taught me to appreciate and truly love cats. Now I'm a cat slave...
REAL NAME -Jeanine
AGE -56
BIRTHDATE -1/21/52
WHERE YOU LIVE - South Georgia. It is a beautiful area.
SIGNIFICANT OTHER - None and don't want one. Life is so much simpler and less stressful without a man. lol
ANNIVERSARY -
KIDS -Two grown sons and two grandsons, Zack, 7 and Tyler, 8.
PETS - I share my home and my life with 8 beautiful, intelligent and wonderful cats. My youngest is Chryseis. She is three and was born with Felv and FIV (cat Aids) and the oldest is my soul "mate", Bastet, 14, the sweetest soul on this planet. Her son, Indy, 13--not so sweet, but he is one of the best cuddlers. Sanura is a marbled tabby who wishes everyone else would die and she could have me all to herself. She's a Diva who likes her water with ice. Silkie is a gray Bastet wanna be...and extremely ticklish. Merlyn is a ginger tabby who thinks he is a comedian. Chaim is a light gray and white tabby that is Don Knotts nervous--everyone is out to get him. lol. Sarmoti is a solid white, bit of a bully that likes to have his eyes stroked and wants to suck my neck, the little vampire.
OCCUPATION -I am the Director of a Neighborhood Networks Center at a large apartment complex. I do everything from helping people look for jobs/resumes, teach them computer classes, help with buying a house, crafts, special events, help kids with homework projects, etc to finding help with food or utilities payments. In other words, I help people with any life skills they may need help with in order to move their lives forward. And it's all free, not just to the people in the apartments, but to anyone who walks in the door, despite how much or how little money they make. A millionaire can get the same help as a homeless person.
I also have a little home business that is picking up very well. I transfer VHS and DV to DVD, make picture DVDs with music (for funerals or other special events), restore photographs, and create hardbound books for people. The business is slowly growing and this year, I also plan to add Super8 films (the old kind that ran on projectors) to DVD. I would be the only person in this area doing this. I don't want the business to grow too quickly and right now it's a good tax shelter, but I'm hoping to have a hefty profit in the next couple years because I want a horse and need extra money for that...
STARTING WEIGHT - 315
WHAT PLAN ARE YOU FOLLOWING - I am taking Alli, but I am doing extreme low carb Monday-Wednesday or Thursday and then Low fat/ calorie counting the rest of the week. This way, no matter what food I'm craving, I can have it at some point during the week. I've found that this way of eating achieves two purposes 1) I don't feel anxious because I know that there is no food off limits to me during a week's time (although I often change the way it is prepared. For example, mac and cheese is made with no cal "butter", FF milk, and 2% sharp cheddar instead of the usual regular everything.). I LOVE McDonald's sausage biscuits for breakfast--and I have one every week--usually Thursday morning--but the calories are counted and I have a low calorie day on that day. 2) Because my body doesn't know when it's going to get carbs, be restricted on calories or fat, it doesn't hold onto to weight or plateau. Before I started this, I was on a plateau for 6 weeks--dieting like a fool and lost one pound... Since I started this, I lose every week--no plateaus.
FAV. EXERCISE(S) -I hate mindless exercise. If I'm going to move my body, I have to be achieving something I can see right then--or quickly. So, I like to metal detect (walking and bending over), walk in cemeteries and read headstones, walk and bird watch, work in the yard, clean my house top to bottom (I personally think that housework, done hard and right is one of the best exercises there is--I even wash down the walls, so when I get finished, I've used every muscle in my body and I am TIRED! lol) I also like to lift weights because you start seeing results within a week.
FAV. NO-NO FOODS - I don't have any No No foods on my way of eating. However things like Pizza are made more nutritiously with less fat.
FAV.BOOK(S) - Stranger in a Strange Land.
FAV. MOVIE(S) - Independence Day, Visit to a Small Planet (most of the old sci fi like The Day the Earth Stood Still.) I don't like romance or comedy very much, but Death Becomes Her was funny--even though I don't like Merl Streep.
FAV. SONG(S) - I've been involved with music all my life (performing and managing--my sons are both musicians and one son has an automated/ moving light show) but about 10 years ago I got sick of music. I never listen to it now, but one of my favorites was Sweet Child o' Mine.
FAV. QUOTE - I have two of my own that I made up: "People never cease to disappoint me and animals never fail to amaze me." and "The closer I get to 70, the younger 18 AND 80 are."
But my favorite is an old Viking saying: "That which does not kill you, makes you stronger."
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU - I've also been a child abuse investigator for the state of Georgia, managed a heavy metal band, travelled with a Carnival, was the Director of Sexual Assault Crimes for a large Police Dept., have written a book called The Celtic Viking, love computers, am a cancer survivor, am interested in "ghost hunting", a "little" psychic, and I also quit smoking 6 1/2 years ago--yay!

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU - I was a die hard member of this forum in 2007 (hopefully some of you remember me!), worked my butt off for 6 months, and did really well not breaking any of my dieting rules...but only lost about 20 pounds and gave up. Now the doctor thinks I have hypothyroidism along with my PCOS and I'm ready to try again, in hopes that the meds will help me lose weight like a normal person. My husband's getting out of the USMC and we're headed to Virginia soon to start our new lives as civilians...it's going to be interesting!
