Talking Time for me to get serious

I have been a member since last year in March, been up and down back and forth with weight, I quit smoking a year ago last October, had back surgery a year ago Christmas, and now I am at my heaviest and I am so uncomfortable and out of shape I feel like I am going to burst...no word of a lie I have never been so uncomfortable. I have been trying to get my self esteem and motivation up as much as I can to start. I had picked tomorrow (Jan 6th) as my start date back in December. To me this challenge just may be the answer and motivation I need. This gets me even more excited and ready to start loosing. I am married and my husband is a very picky eater and likes all the sauces and fancy gourmet foods, I am going to have to make 2 meals from this day forward and have the motivation to eat my chicken and salad while he eats his steak and potato. I work 12 hour shifts mostly nights with a few days mixed in and I find it very hard to fit in exercise into my day to day life. I am looking for encouragement and accountability...if anyone wants to join up with me I am up for it. Good luck everyone, here we go....we can do it!!!
I will weigh in the morning when I wake up

I am ready for this. I hope none of my Northern friends have froze to death.
8:48 AM here in cloudy Florida and it is 67 degrees F. Supposed to drop to 29 F tonight. That's when we can pick frozen orange juice right off of the trees.

Hey everyone, so I had so much fun with the last challenge, that I can't wait to be a part of this one also. I lost over 12% of my body in the fall/winter challenge!! My original goal was to lose 50 lbs and get to 135-136. I will hopefully get there by my Birthday April 3rd.... I am actually small-medium boned but carry a fair amount of muscle, so I might need to go lower.

Is anyone else having a hard time getting back on plan after the holidays? The sweets/cookies are taunting me.
Happy 2014 everyone.

Isles - Yikes, hope you don't have problems with your car.

So I need to do this, I know 28.4 sounds like a wierd number but I like 295 as a goal, I wanted to lose around 2 lbs per week with an allowance for some small allowance for screw ups because lets face it they happen. I honestly feel like this is asking a LOT of myself. I haven't managed to get below 300 in YEARS. I'm active but I seem to run into a lot of food issues. So we'll see... 323.4 today. So almost 30lbs in just shy of 4 months.

FIONA W - Welcome on in .. and I LOVE that line lol .. perfect .. might have to stitch that one up for my wall!

UBEE - I havent read the book either lol .. but his seminar wasnt about that .. boy its a long time ago now .. but it was more about getting to your core .. working out why you react certain ways to certain things .. what influences/influenced your decisions or choices ... how you hear and perceive over what is actually being said or seen ... I just found it enlightening hence the light bulbs going off .. it started me on my voyage of self-discovery ... but in a more in depth way than I had already been on

STARFISH - Welcome back hun … you did pretty good in the last challenge so if that was without as much effort you are gonna fly with this one lol … Im sure Xmas wasn’t very good for many of us .. but its all one day at a time and its ok to start again

MOUNTAIN WALKER - Gotta love the whoosh lol .. makes the UGH so much better to get through lol

KERR BEAR MOM - WELCOME!! And congrats on giving up smoking!! I have been smoke free for 12 years now (Dec 21) and it was the best decision of my life … keep in mind that it is an addiction and even after 3 years I was still willing to pick it up again .. heck .. even after 12 years I occasionally wonder what it would be like lol … but keep strong and be proud of yourself .. .I found a lot of the extra weight came on after giving it up too .. As for hubby …. I wonder if you can tweak those gourmet recipes to make them a healthier option so that you can enjoy them too? If you need any ideas just let me know what sort of things and ingredients you use for them and I will see what I can come up with .. I am in the process this year of writing a recipe book which offers more healthy options … so far I only have a few recipes tried (Chicken & Feta Filos, Almond/Lemon Cake, Chocolate/Cranberry Brownies, Carrot/Walnut Cupcakes, Banana/Coconut Cupcakes, 3 C Filos … ) … so ideas to create are always welcome lol. Oh .. as for exercise .. yeah .. that is something I am still working on doing lol .. I did start a little last year .. for about 3 weeks .. but then work got in the way .. but after this week I am looking for work again so will take some time for me in the search and get back to the gym .. I have 2 “walks” I have signed up to do (never done anything like it before) .. One is in Feb (6.5km) and the other in March (5km), so don’t get too hung up on the exercise initially …

PAM - Thanks for the weigh in hun .. so nice to have you back on the boards

ISLES - I was listening to the news on the way in this morning … OMG .. SO COLD!! The poor reporter obviously heard the ad that was playing before he was talked to and it was about sunscreen for our sunny days lol .. I was getting cold just listening to the temps over there … if you can get a flight out come on over to the sunshine .. well .. the cloudy weather lol .. although it was sunny and warm yesterday

WANNASKIPANDLAUGH - Welcome back hun .. and you did great last time too so don’t you stress about it .. I think your goal is great and I will be looking forward to your party pics after you get rid of these 20+ pounds for it

LARRY - I am gonna love your humour on the boards .. frozen juice .. heheh .. giggle … if that is a common saying over there then Im glad I got to hear it … probably cos we don’t get cold enough most of the time to even come up with something like that

TURTLE - Hey hun, welcome back .. and what a great result for the percentage … great one! And yes .. the holiday food that still lingers in my house needs to GO! lol … but not much of it left now and I definitely won’t be replacing it

UBEE - Thanks for the update hun .. good goal I think .. very realistic Keep Warm!

SILENTARCTIC - Hun you CAN do it .. I did .. and after the years of trying and failing its suddenly not impossible .. in the Christmas challenge I did last year in the 18 weeks I lost just over 50 pounds .. and I am sooooo not active lol .. so it was really all about food choices. What helped me was a food journal as well as Calorie Counter online .. I think the biggest thing in weight loss is accountability .. if you aren’t going to be honest with others, then you aren’t being honest with yourself and that is a sure way to fall short or down. I believe in you and Im sure you can do whatever you set your mind to Keep warm where you are too!

LESLIEWENDY - Thanks for the update hun

Okee .. so I have already discovered a bad habit has reared its ugly head .. my late night snacking .. and its only because the food is there that easy to nibble on .. so that is my project this week .. STOP THE SNACKING! Thanks everyone for their updates .. and I hope you are all keeping warm over there .. I feel a little guilty for mentioning that its cloudy lol .. Im still in cool clothes though .. so I will stop complaining about a rainy summer and instead just appreciate that its rain not ice or snow

Soooo .. here is this weeks (or days) question .. what "plans" are we on? Or are we playing it by ear? Is it all about the food .. or the activity .. or a combination of the two? What have you tried in the past that worked .. and if it worked .. why did you stop it? If it didn't .. why not?

For me Im K.I.S.S (Keeping It Simple Stupid lol) ... all about 1-ingredient foods where I can ... soooo lots of fresh fruit and veg and meat ... and if its a sweet or snack it needs to be either something I made or a natural product. I also only eat within an 8 hour window of the day. So I don't eat (when I stop this darn snacking!) from 8pm through to about midday. My day consists of one main meal (which is HEAPS of veg and about 200-250g chicken) and a couple of snacks (either a nut bar or some fruit), also 2-3 litres of water each day .. and when I am going to work I have a Grande Trim Latte Single Shot from Starbuck lol .. otherwise I just drink Green Tea.

I have tried most diets in the last 20 or so years ... at least those that are available in NZ lol .. and the biggest problem with me sticking to them was either the cost .. or the fact I had to change my life to fit the food .. it shouldn't be like that .. your food should be able to fit into your day otherwise you will feel like you are being pulled in all directions .... especially when work and family are usually the main reasons for the issues arising to fit it all in .. multi meals, times for eating, etc etc etc .. so I have designed my own .. and it is a plan .. I stick to between 1000-1550 calories a day (although I did often go under the 1000 for the Christmas one - but Im going slower this time .. I have a year to reach my goal so not gonna rush it now lol). As for exercise .. yeah .. well .. that is still a plan in processing lol ... but I did want to try to focus on that a little more this year

Oh and another thing about the food ... I am trying to cater to dairy free, gluten free and low sugar for meals and baking ... so that is a good challenge for me

Nightkatt I just wanted to let you know that I had the pleasure of visiting New Zealand during the mid 1970's while I was in the US Navy. What scenery, you have one of the most beautiful countries that I have ever seen. It was not warm when I was there. I visited in July and it was cold, damp and lightly snowing. As I remember the snow was not sticking to the ground though.
