Congrats on your first thread.
Mine is "Why don't you use diet pills?" Well because diet pills suppress appetite and I don't eat because I'm hungry for food. I eat because food is alot of other stuff to me.

There are too many to name. What I hate is everyone has a diet, a theory or advice to give whether you like it or not. Like because I'm fat they have a right to open their mouth. How would alcoholics, shopaholics or people with other problems like it if people just randomly gave them advice? It's nobody's business unless we ask for advice.

Ohoh! I have one!
"Is that on your diet?" or "Can you eat that?" referring to the food I'm getting at a restaurant or if our work is having a party.

A family member recently said to me, " have you heard about that weightloss surgery?"
My answer, "yes I have."
Their reply, " are you considering it?"
My answer, "no, I don't think so."
Their response, " oh really, why? I heard people lose tons of weight, you should really look into it."
I thought it was both rude and annoying!

I have one that isn't necessarily annoying, but I found it down right rude and hurtfull. My brother had been living out of state and our family hadn't seen him in about 2+ years. He came home to visit with his new bride, whom we knew nothing about and when he introduced her to me he said, "This is Lisa, she use to weigh over 200 pounds!" I felt like I had been slapped in the face. Maybe that's why I haven't seen or heard from him in over 20 years.

Ugh. Men are so insensitive. She probably was hurt by that too...Overexposure of a sensitive issue.
Hmm..my favorite would have to be what others have said 'just eat less'
DUH. it is easier said than done...it's more about eating right and eating when you are hungry, stopping when you are satisfied.

People can be so insensitive! I haven't told anyone about my WLS except family and 1 friend. One of the pre-op things was a chest xray. The tech asked what surgery I was going in for and I told her. Her response was "how'd you let yourself get that fat?"
Ugh!

Actually she is just as bad as my brother. She couldn't stand being around me or my parent due to our being over weight. The last time I saw them (1989) was when I visited them at their place. No furniture except their bed. The home was furnished with gym equipment, treadmill, lifecycle, etc... and the walls were slathered with body building posters.

"Did you have that weight-loss surgery?" then not believing me when I say no. I think WLS is a wonderful tool but I didn't go that route. And a lot of people think I'm lying when I say no I didn't, because I've lost over 160 lbs in 16 months. Don't ask a question then think I'm lying when I answer it, grrr.

Well I don't think I've had people say certain things to me, but I have read many success stories around the internet and the one thing that really bugs me is when the people who have any kind of success make their whole journey sound like "warm and fuzzy gumdrops." THAT irritates me...
Or people that say "it is as simple as that." That realllllllly bugs me...lol. Or "all you need is to not eat McDonalds and exercise!" lol...
That is the kind of stuff that irritates me a little bit.

I have heard it all, reading some of the posts, it seems that people all over have a commonality to them when dealing with people's weight. I have traveled around the world and had some comments made.
When I used to drink coke, I'd have waitresses bring me diet coke. This happened alot. Then one day, when I sent it back, the waitress said, "oh, well, you SHOULD be drinking diet coke."
I think what gets me now, is the fact people are shocked I am married. I heard gasps in my English Comp class last term when we had to share stuff and the other person tell about you, I have been married 23 years. I heard whispers.
Then at the gym, the front desk clerk saw me and my husband standing by a table and I walked over to ask about the free friend friday, this was actually for my son and his friend, but she looked at my husband and said, very condescending, "oh, you want to bring your friend." I told her I was married and he was on the family plan with me for the last year!
She was shocked at well, and didn't even try to hide it. I guess people don't understand how or what brought you to where you are this very moment. There are so many thoughtless people out there. Not everyone is trying to be so helpful either.

Here's mine, when someone says a rude, very rude thing about your weight and then follows it up with, "I'm only saying this because I'm concerning about your health". Seriously? Apparently you don't give a hoot about my mental or emotional health then. Wait, I thought of another one, "You're pretty active for someone your size". Oh I'm sorry, maybe you'd prefer if I stay stationary all day or go crawl into a dark corner and disappear. It's amazing what people think they are allowed to say because they have the right to pass judgement. If there has been one blessing from being a large lady, it's the ability to have compassion for others emotions and take that into account before I open my mouth.

How about "When are you due?" I haven't gotten that one because I carry my weight on my hips and thighs but my sister's heard it a number of times. "Hello? Have you never heard of fat?"
