Default how much did you weigh untill you no longer needed a seat belt extension??

So I'm going to Florida in June. Last time I flew was 2 years ago and I weighed a little over 300 lbs I definitely needed a seat belt extension... well I'm 275 and wondering if I I'll be able to get by this time with out one? I still have 2 1/2 months before I fly out so I'm hoping by that time I'll 50-60 lbs lighter that would put me in my 250's maybe low 260's if I stay on plan and keep going the way I have...

I know every one is built differently and I do have a big booty and big hips that fill up a seat quit fast.. but I was wondering at what point or how much did you weigh when you no longer needed a seat belt extension?

ps- I'll be flying southwest and I'm now a size 24 last time I flew I was a 26 verging on a size 28..

Whoa. I read that wrong at first...I thought you meant you'd be 50 or 60 pounds lighter than you are NOW in just 2 1/2 months...lol! Then I figured out you meant from your weight last time you flew!

Sorry I can't help with your question though because I haven't flown in about 5 or 6 years and I don't remember what I weighed back then. I'm all butt and hips, too, so I remember I was uncomfortable but I was flying with my kids and we just put up the armrests.

Have a great trip!

A lot of it depends on the plane. There are definately differences between them. I've had cases where in the same day I needed an extension on one flight but not the other.

We all have different body shapes so the weight that works for one may not work for another.

Having said that....I flew in Sept at ~300 pounds and didn't need an extension - one plane was a close fit but I still managed. I flew again in February at ~255 and had absolutely NO PROBLEM! My seatbelt extension days are over!

I think you'll be fine, but if you aren't please don't get down about it. You are taking care of you and that's what's important!

I think with all the body types out there you can't just predict. I would go with the assumption that you'll need an extender. Heck, if you don't, what a fun surprise that will be!

I flew on Southwest about two weeks ago at 290 as a pear shape and just bareeely got my seatbelt buckled without an extender.

I'm sure it varies a lot from person to person and airline to airline, but that was my most recent experience! =)

I have flown on planes of all sizes and the seat width varies from plane to plane, as does the seatbelt length, to a certain extent.

The highest weight I flew at, Christmas 2007, was probably around 330-350 (I'm estimating since I wouldn't go NEAR a scale them). I'm 5'8. My weight was fairly evenly distributed but I did have a large tummy and butt. The seatbelt was stretched to capacity, but it did close. Barely!

I flew again Christmas 2008 at @ 280 and not only did it close, I actually had to tighten it a bit. My hip measurement was in the mid-50s.

Hope that helps.

Are you a size 24? That's what your personal info under your avatar says. I bet you will be fine. I was a size 24 at Christmas when I flew and I actually had to take my seatbelt in about an inch or so.

Even so, if you need one, just ask the staff and they'll give ya one as they usually have some on board.

i didn't know there was a 'seat belt extension'. i'm glad you brought it up because if i got on the plane this coming monday and the belt didn't fit i would have felt like a complete moron.

I'm a (tight, lol) size 24 and I didn't need one on Southwest. Here's hoping you won't either!
