Default 300+ Weekly Thread #1154

WELCOME

We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone (roosters as well as chicks!) to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears, heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We also share what works for us and what doesn't.

We know the thread can move very quickly, and that people often make "personal" remarks and keep a number of conversations going. Please feel free to contribute even if you can't make personal comments all the time.

Finally, we also have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, Photos, Exercise, Info for Getting Started and more. Many of these threads are stickied at the top of the page. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for the Amazon "store" in the upper right hand corner of the screen on the PURPLE tool bar. A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!!

Heather - can you change the title? I don't know why I ended up with the word default in the header. I copied and pasted like I've done before. Maybe it's just too early for me!

Anne -- I fixed it before I saw your note! I wonder how that happened!

Hope you're all having a good Monday. Our weather is warming up and sun is expected and I feel optimistic for the week.

Well, I managed to get up even before the alarm went off. I could have gone back to bed for another 15 or 20 mins but I decided not to. I thought I had heard the doorbell, but I must have dreamed it. The one cat freaks out when people ring the bell and he was just sitting on his chair wondering why I was racing downstairs badly dressed. So, I just went back and got a little better dressed and stayed up.

Story -
I figured you had already talked to the doctor about it. That's really too bad that you're struggling with it. My parents originally put in a pool for some of the same reasons. When we bought this house the pool was already in. Usually a pool doesn't add any value to homes here. It only makes it more appealing to buyers who want one. We could have bought another house roughly the same, without a pool, at the same price. So we had made it one of our priorities when picking one.

Bernice - that miniature looks great. How old is your daughter? From the geometry I'm thinking either late public school or early high school, but it's been so long I don't remember when I first took it. That's quite a project to give them, even with a week off. She sounds like me though, starting it Thursday. Although in my case I'd have probably held off starting until perhaps even later.

Debbie - I ended up with another 10 shirts (4 black, 4 med purple, 1 med blue, and 1 dark pink) from work. I think originally I'd bought 5, and then at some point I must have bought another 5. Only one (the dark pink) doesn't have some kind of mark on it from work. I thought the blue one was okay, but I see there are a few spots of black paint on them. It's official now, I even have way too many work clothes. I don't think I do that much work! They're actually just about the perfect size as with the weight gain (and now loss) I'm only a little lighter than I was when I was wearing them regularly. And I'll wear them until they're quite big. I used to sew, so I'm still holding on to a few pieces of material that I'll likely never make into anything. You never know though. I did give away a fair bit to a neighbour who sews, although who knows if they're now just in her pile of material. I don't feel so bad as my aunt in the UK has a whole room of things she's going to make. The difference is that when she makes something it's gorgeous. Many years ago she was a designer for a clothing manufacturer, so she has the style and the skill.

Well, since I'm up I suppose I should go have an early breakfast so I can start my day. Hope everyone has a good one!

I think I copied the little icon as well as the text. All I did was change the last number and then copied the body of the text. Thanks.

Good Morning All!

Congrats to the many of you that completed the 5K this weekend. I'm not up to a 5K yet, but this weekend I did walk 2 blocks on both Saturday and Sunday. Since I could barely walk 10 feet 6 months ago this was a major NSV for me. I've been stalled with my weight loss for the past 2 weeks so I decided perhaps it was time to shake my body up by moving more. I plan to take my walk every day and slowly increase the distance.

The last few days have been beautiful with sunshine and no storms so I've been feeling better. Everything is green and blooming and it promises to be another gorgeous day. Hope everyone's day is as nice as mine.

Wow there was alot on the thread over the weekend. Don't think I will be able to catch up on the personals. I must finish my taxes this week and its the TOM. So needless to say the urge to procrastinate will be at a high level! Have a great Monday everyone!

Happy Monday all!

The yard sale was a success. We sold so much junk and made $586. We put $100.00 in my checking account, took $100 and went and paid off our Nintendo Wii and split the other $386 right down the middle and DH and I each got some spending money for our junk. Saturday was the very best yard sale day when we sold the most. After the sale on Saturday we went in the house and rested. We ate some dinner and DH started watching Nascar. About 1/2 way through I asked him if he would like to go for a walk with me and the dogs, I remembered the 5K. I didn't sign up for it but was hoping I could get out and do it sometime. He said yes to the walk and we did almost 4 miles so, I walked my first 3fc 5K!

I am so proud of all of us that did the 5K. I feel so happy to have been able to do it.

Johnnie: I wanted to tell you how proud I am of you too. So what if you didn't walk the whole thing. You did some walking along with the rest of us. AWesome job. I know exactly how you feel. When I was 510 and I tried to walk, I could go less than a block and I would have to stop and catch my breath then I would turn around and come back home. Hugs to you on your accomplishments!

Storey: So glad to see you. Sorry that your ankle is still bothering you. Huge, Huge Congrats on reaching your 1st 100 Pounds lost! Excellent job!

DmPLS: so happy that your son called you and you were able to have a great talk. He sounds like such a stand up young man. You must be busting at the seams with pride for him. Hugs.

Debbie: Woo hoo to win $40 at the casino! Is it raining there today? It was so beautiful all weekend here. 71 on Saturday and yesterday got up to 75! Today it is warm but raining, raining, raining.

Anne: Great job sorting all of your clothes. Keep that shirt safe so you can try it on periodically especially if you have a low day with weight loss.

Cyn: I think the pool is a great place to start at the gym. I say also the bike, treadmill and weights too. Have fun with it.

Julee: Hope you are feeling better very soon.

Carol: Glad you had such a great time with Sis in law. Your kitchen sounds cute.

debimitch: sorry no loss but that happens as you know. Hope your dh feels better soon.

Sandy: Congrats to your son! I hope you have a decent time in Alabama and you are able to get some closure on things. Hope your sister is a changed, for the better, person. Hugs.

Luann: Hi girl!

heatherdw: Woo hoo on reaching 16 pounds loss. Weigh to go. tee hee.

Sharon: I have to say I saw the picture and you don't have a big head! You guys both look beautiful. Be nice to yourself my friend. You have to be encouraging to you. You are a beautiful lady that deserves some respect. Hugs.

Rat: I am so excited. On Sunday it was a bit boring and I have a brand new cheap mountain bike. I bought it 2 years ago but never have ridden it, wayyy to fat. I have got on it a time or two and went like down the street and then back that is all well, I was bugging my dh that I want to see if I can ride it now that I have lost more than 200 pounds since the last time I tried to ride it. He got it down from the spot he hangs it in the garage. I went around the block and back and forth and I ended up riding about 2 miles on Sunday just going around and around the block and up and down the roads near her. I kept checking in to see if dh needed yard sale help but, I have to say I see what you love in it. Wow. So fun. I can't wait to get out and ride it more. I am thinking about riding it to my group meetings each Tuesday night if I can find a spot to park it and chain it up while I'm in there. It is a 2.3 mile ride each way so that would be such a good way to top of my day.

Battle: Sounds like your hike was a special one.

Catherine: I'm so happy and proud of you too for getting to walk to the video store and back. Great job walking and taking it a bit easier on that leg. Hugs.

Well, I am going to get my hair colored today. Same color just cover the grey or same color with highlights. lol. I think I may go swim first because I will take a couple of days off swimming after I get my hair colored. Hope you all are doing wonderful and blessed. It is TOM for me and I am up 1 pound today. I am all swollen though so I'm sure it is water. I can't wait to just start this darn TOm already. lol.

Blessings all,
Annie

Hello My Peeps!

Congratz to all the 5k 3FC'ers. You are all doing fabulous!!!

Story, you are an inspiration! w00h00 on the century mark! Healing vibes sent to your bum ankle.

Bernice, your daughter is so talented - what a wonderful miniature!

Tex, gratz on the 2 blocks!! I understand about baby steps. You'll be doing 5k in no time

RealCdn, sorry for your doorbell scare. Odd how we hear things when half asleep and translate them to something else. I was half asleep at midnight and I heard a CRACK. I look everywhere for broken items inside the house and even looked outside the window. I thought maybe I was dreaming, but it woke up immediately. Come to find out that my neighbor had an oak tree break from the top.. about 15 ft worth! That's what I heard, but it was too dark to see in his yard. It missed everything too. It had been really windy that night.

Julia, gL on your taxes!!!

Annie, wow on your yardsale!!!!!!!! That's phenomenal! Then you walked AND rode on the bike. I do hope you put some air in them tires before heading out hehe. Tires naturally lose air.. about 3-5lbs a week. Isn't it freeing to ride? Riding to group meetings would be fabulous to do!!

My old kitty is liking my fish-cravings. He gets hand fed leftovers (I hate leftovers lol). He's 18 yrs old and spoiled rotten.

The nice weather has my motivation sparked. I hope everyone is feeling Spring!

Hugs and Luv,
Ratkity

I had a NSV today!
Usually, I LOATHE going outside to walk around. I don't want people looking at me and thinking about how fat I am. I need to exercise more regularly but I am tired of the WATP one mile, I can do the two but it's really hard for me to complete. I can finish the richard Simmons, but again.. it's so hard and I want to die afterwards. I don't have the money to buy the new Leslie Sansone (or anything else for that matter).

I was bored out of my mind. The sun is shining here but it's about 45-50 degrees. I grabbed my ipod, jacket and cell phone and went outside! I went all the way down the street and kept going! I walked to the next street, walked about halfway up, turned around walked back down. Went back to my street, walked up (it's on a incline ) and stopped at my door. I looked at my cellphone and it hadn't even been 20 minutes yet ARGH! I walked across our yard and to the alley. I walked up the alley a little bit, back down, across the yard and back to my porch. 20 minutes exactly.

I wanted to get 30 in, but wow that 20 was a workout for me last night I think I found "new" leg muscles which is weird since I haven't been working out very regularly.

My NSV: Walking outside for twenty minutes!

Hi Peeps - OK - this morning somebody finally noticed my weight loss. I am still shaking my head with laughter - he (mind you a man) said "Are you wasting away?" Gotta love him. Fortunately I was on my way to a meeting so we couldn't chat - I'm afraid he would ask all kinds of questions - and I am pleased it was him - he is a great guy who works in one of our other offices - when he is in town I "rent" him the conference room in my area. He's been in town on a special project for about a month now and is just a joy. He's also taught me the beauty and health benefits of raw green beans - I still prefer mine cooked a bit.

Back to the salt mine - more later.

Hugs to all,
Carol

Heya peeps,

I'm detoxing from a bad eating weekend. I'm doing fine, I'll be back in the game and going strong before you know it. I did get a considerable amount of exercise in this weekend despite the eating.

This weekend was the second battle fought and lost over the fruit slice candies. Previously, I bought 2 tubs for my upcoming Passover seder, ate 1.5 in a day, and threw the rest out. This time, I bought 2 more tubs and kept them in the car trunk. All was well until the weather turned warm and I feared they would melt. 1.5 tubs gone again. My seder is this Friday, and I'm NOT buying more of those darned candies. No one but me has an attachment to them. The problem is it's not just the candies. They are the trigger to an avalanche of food down the gullet.

-----
Carol: WOO HOO! Finally, it happened. Just wait, there are many more compliments to come.

Heatherdw: Good for you! I like the WATP workouts, but I found that my fitness level increased a lot when I was walking outside.

Anne: It is funny how we react to sounds when not quite awake. Glad all is well.

Ratkitty: I'm following your lead back into motivation. Here, the weather was super warm over the weekend, and it's back to cool today. I like the cool weather so am feeling great.

Johnnie: Wow! Good for you, walking more. A little bit at a time and you will be fitter than you ever dreamed possible.

Julia: Good luck with your taxes. I'm loathe to admit I'm also doing them last minute.

Annie: You did very well indeed at the garage sale. I love having them. The money is a great bonus. You're doing phenomenally with exercise, too.

Bernice: That is a very cool geometry assignment. Perhaps I would have liked Geometry back in the day if the assignments were this creative.

Have a great day, peeps.

Ratkitty: Duh. I honestly didn't air up the tires. I guess it would have made it smoother. I was afraid to air them that air plus my weight would make them explode. lol. I will be sure to air them up next time first. Thanks for the tip.

heatherdw: great job walking. I am so proud of you to go out in public when you don't feel like it. Excellent job. I wish I could give you a hug on that one.

Carol: Woo hoo to someone noticing your weight loss!

Battle: Happy detoxing. I think my dh loves those candies you are speaking about too. I saw that Swiss Colony makes them in sugar free and I thought about getting some.

I went and got my hair colored. I feel so much better when it isn't so much gray. I then went to Costco and bought some Tariaki chicken breasts already cooked. I thought they would be good cut up on salad. I adore green salad but it is a waste of space for my tummy without protein on it. Now, protein will be on them. I ate some for lunch but ate wayyyyy too much. I can be such a dummy sometimes. Oh well. Live and learn.

DH hooked up our new Wii last night but I was sick and didn't play. I came into the office, where the wii is and thought I may give it a try. All I can say is.... HOW FUN! I love boxing and am very good at it. I won all the games I played. Tennis lol another story. The very best part is that I got punching so hard and moving to dodge punches that I started breathing hard. I think it will be fun to get a work out and throw some punches against dh. lol. I wasn't going to play it until I earned it by reaching 250 pounds but, I gave in and wanted to try. I think I deserve it at 274. lol. I'll have to just try extra hard to get to 250 ASAP.

Well, hope you are all having a wonderful day.

Blessings,
Annie

That's exactly how I started a few months ago, and this weekend I did my 1st 5k walk. I began with just walking to the corner and back, then every week I'd add 5 minutes. It can be done!

Good afternoon all,

I'm so happy with my new heart rate monitor. I admit when I ordered it I had visions of the strap not fitting (you know how that goes). Although I've worn a strap type monitor before, so I thought I'd be okay. I got it all programed with current weight, date of birth and such and popped it on for the fitness test. Well, it's no surprise that I got a 'Very Low' score, but that's okay. I put it on today before I started my first walking set. Because the darn thing was beeping at me (too low) I put a minute of jogging in just to raise the heart rate. Of course then the thing was beeping (too high) off and on for the rest of the time. I left it alone until lunch and then I manually changed the target zones. It was aiming for 124-141, but I just bumped the top number up to 150.

Anyway, between my treadmill in the morning and the strength training in the afternoon it says I've burned 1,113 calories. I don't know if it's accurate, but it doesn't matter. I just wanted to make sure once I start substituting some swimming for the treadmill that I'm doing approximately the same calorie burn. Oh, and the pool guy came today! We've had a lot of snow this winter and there's a ton of water in the pool. He set up the pump today and we ran it for about an hour and a half while we started filling underneath with a garden hose. He's left the pump set up and I'll put it back on in a couple of hours for a while and keep filling. I also helped a bit with scrubbing the blanket so it's easier to clean tomorrow. Hmmm... do I get a discount for that? I was just doing it to be sociable, and hey, it's exercise as well.

Johnnie - congrats on moving, if even just a little. It's probably time to build up a little endurance, especially if the weather is nice. The first steps, which you've taken, are the most important. Just think how good you'll feel out in the fresh air.

Julia - for the first time in years we were early getting our taxes done, and we've both already received our refunds. I do try to get them done early when money is coming back, but sometimes I don't even check until near the deadline.

Annie - you make me want to got through our stuff and have a sale. Although I suspect I'd have to pry a lot of the stuff out of my mother's hands. I told her that the silver will be the first thing to go once she's gone. I mentioned it, and we agreed that a few specific things would stay in the family (in the event something happened to both of us). I just know I wouldn't polish it.

RatKitten - Thanks. The guy showed up about 11am, rang the bell, and I was amazed that he waited until I came. It turned out that it was a no signature required delivery anyway. Usually they just ring the bell, dump the stuff on the bench at the front door and run.

Heather_dw - how nice to get a walk outside. You're always going to find a difference between things like the treadmill, the WATP DVDs, and walking in the real world. They're all just slightly different movements. That's why it's sometimes better to mix them up a bit.

Carol - it's funny, but the first person originally to notice my weight loss was a guy I worked with. So much for guys being unobservant. It's always nice when that first person notices. Congrats.

BattleAx - I still have a great fear of certain foods. I mean, I've been on plan for months. I plan everything I eat the night before, and with only a few exceptions, I stick to it. Even those exceptions are within plan. Yet I know certain candies, or even nuts, and I couldn't stick to a single serving. I tried to talk myself into pistachios the other night at the store. I take an ounce of raw almonds and/or soy nuts most days. There's really no reason I couldn't work them in. Except, they were one of those thing I would start and finish the bag in one sitting. I hope that eventually we'll beat these demons, but it might be a long time.

Yayaism - congrats on your first 5K. I'd like one year to do an official one. There are a couple around here, but maybe not this year.

Wow, I'm caught up! I should go off and see how dinner is coming along. I put it in the oven and set it to go on as I was running late with my afternoon exercising. That's okay though, it was because of the pool guy! (can you tell that I'm most happy about this)
