Getting tired of this comment...
I am so tired of hearing this comment "you are not 20 anymore and will never be in that kind of shape again".
When I was 20-25 I worked out a lot and ate little. I was in good shape, but then picked up bad habits and stopped eating right when I married my now ex-husband. I am now about 20 lbs heavier than I was then. But am bound and determined to be in shape again. So why do people feel the need to tell you that it is physically impossible to be in shape? Like we are doomed to just be fat when we age? Pathetic!

They want to use it as an excuse to not have to try to get in shape themselves. As the saying goes - the person who says it cannot be done should stop interrupting the person doing it.

FWIW, I hit the best shape of my life at age 40, after having a kid. Lowest weight as an adult, too.
It is harder after age 20, physiologically. But in other ways, it's much easier. Fewer weekend evenings out with friends, for one thing!
I suppose you could plug your ears and sing "la la la la la", but that wouldn't be very adult...
//b. strong,

I've seen women in their late 30s and 40s and even 50s that are in awesome shapes. Our bodies may not be the same like they were at 21, but that doesn't mean we can't have a BETTER body than we did back then.
The best part is that now we'll actually enjoy it and appreciate it much more!!!!

to those people, whatever! I am in the best shape of my life, physically and mentally, at 35. and i have two kids. and i am recently divorced. and i have a ton of gray hair. does any of that get in my way of wanting to stay healthy? i used to allow that to happen, but I don't anymore. I just DO what i need to do to get what I want.
i have a fellow health coach who lost 36lbs last year....at age 71! She's kept it off for a year and she is the most amazing 72 year old ever, she is such an inspiration to me. She even has a pacemaker, but she didn't let that stop her from getting healthy. She never thought she "couldn't do it," even after years of dieting. She finally found a program that worked for her and now she's coaching it. She's living proof that you're never too old.
So to those people who say that getting old and fat is a given, I give my personal experience and I talk about this lady. We're not "special," we just decided to believe that anything is possible. And if they still don't believe me, I guess they know everything and have nothing left to learn. I just live my life by example, and if people want to learn they will, and if they want to wallow in their "hopeless" situation they will. Just do YOUR thing!

My doctor actually said that statement to me during my last physical. She told me that I should just stop losing weight now because i'll never get to where I was in high school. Little does she know that I weigh less than I did in high school. I just rolled my eyes and told her I would consider her ideas. I then walked out of my physical and hit the gym

My mother weighs exactly 4 lbs more than she did in high school. While I'm built nothing like her, it's an inspiration and a drive and something I can throw in the face of people who say the same thing to me.

Exactly! My Mom has actually been heavy my entire life. She has been on a modified low sugar/high fiber diet since this summer and is down to almost the same weight that she was before I was born. She looks amazing and has so much zest for life. So I KNOW that it can be done. She has been a great inspiration.
