New 30-something, new to the board!

  • Hi all! New here and wanted to introduce myself.

I'm Merie. Just turned 30 the week before Christmas. I've been married for 6 1/2 year, no kids, 2 cats. I live in sunny Florida and work too many hours as a financial analyst.

I've always had issues with my weight. In college, I got down to about 150, but in unhealthy ways. Met my hubby, and for a variety of different reasons, some health related, some not, put on 50-60 lbs in our first two years of marriage....and have been here ever since. In the last 3-4 years, I've been between 220 and 190, and am sitting somewhere in there right now.

My weight is always in the front of my mind, I've just been missing the motivation to actually *do it*. But am constantly feeling guilty about not doing what I need to do. I wanted to lose the weight before I turned 30, but never did anything serious to get there. So now I'm going to do it while I am 30!

Yesterday, I joined a local gym with a friend, and signed up for a 1-hr personal training session (Tuesday night), and have credit toward 3 more personal training sessions that I'm planning on using. I'm leaving in a half hour to pick my friend up and hit the new gym for the first time.

Just wanted to say high and introduce myself!
  • Hi Merie! Happy belated birthday and congrats on doing something about it!
  • welcome and congrats on your new life---hope all goes well at the gym for you and you are able to find things that help you with your weight loss.
  • Hello and welcome! Thats great that you are working with a personal trainer! I think that should really help get you rolling. If I had the $ for a personal trainer I would be all over it. But, alas, I am still a poor college student.
I hope you have a great session with your personal trainer.
  • to the board!
  • welcome merie!
i need diet buddies! welcome! welcome!
    please don't go away!
  • Thanks for the warm welcome!

Tonight is my consult/assessment first meeting with a personal trainer. I'm very excited, but also not looking forward to the official weigh-in/body fat measurements. But it's gotta be done, right? First step and all.

I'll put my experience in the daily chat tomorrow. Cool if I just jump in? Do I need to know anything first?

  • M, jump right in and make yourself at home!
  • New 30-someting (although upper end of that)
Well, may I just say that I'm happy I can still say "30" something??!! I'm 38 years old and will be 39 in August. 40 is just around the corner and that freaks me out a little, but hey, 40 is the new 30, right ?

Anyway, I have two great kids, a wonderful husband, and I live in North Carolina. I've been overweight since college and it's gotten progressively worse over the years -- especially after having my first child. I'm only 5'3" so my weight is pretty bad on my small frame.

Recently I got to the point where I just figured I needed to just DO IT AND LOSE WEIGHT! So, I have created a blog called lose40by40.com (although I need to lose much more than 40 pounds) to make sure that I was accountable to everyone who reads that thing. I needed to admit I was overweight and get serious. Wish me luck!

Anyone else here closer to the "40's"? Anyone else nervous about reaching that milestone and, perhaps, still being overweight when you get there? I'd love the support!

Lastly, is it okay to tell people about my blog? I wasn't sure and I don't want to break any rules. I just need as much support as I can get.

    Thanks and blessings!
    Monica
