I feel sorry for this poor girl. She looks as if she was beautiful and had a beautiful body to start with. Now, she looks like an out of proportion child's doll with a MASSIVE head atop of teenie-tiny body.
This is the second Ralph Lauren "Photoshop disaster" in the last month. Here's the first...
My husband and I got onto this subject the other day, while he was watching some japanese anime. The proportions on the wome were so distorted (their eyes took up half the surface area of their face), that I pointed out that if you ran across someone with the proportions in anime (and increasingly photos in fashion ads), you'd suspect the person was from another planet.
Sadly though in animation - you KNOW that the figures are drawings and do not reflect reality, but it's not always so clear with photos. Especially young teen girls (and increasingly teen boys) are especially vulnerable to body perception issues (even without such unrealistic standards to aspire to), and aside from the fashion industry not just using nearly (or known) anorexic models, but photoshopping them even further to unsurviveable proportions, is just unconscionable to me.
I don't even get it. Those were actual published ads? Because they are so far-fetched as to just be laughable and stupid. I'd expect a photo-shopper to get fired over pictures like that.
Ugh. Honestly it's not any where near attractive if I went and asked my very thin husband right now if that looked good he would tell me it looks sick and not in a good way.

I saw this the other day. The ads look like freaks of nature= not in this lifetime, so unsexy. I can see why the model is offended. I will never look at this brand the same.
It is getting so crazy with all the altering.

Although I do see that this has a serious tone, I couldn't help but laugh at those photos. It is so unbelievable that a company thought they could push the bar that far, lol. The sad part is that too many other companies push too far, without getting caught.
ugh I'm getting seriously fed up with this whole fixation when it comes to the fashion industry with being thin. Why does Ralph Lauren even use human beings in their photos? They should just get a pole and dress the way they want it to look because that's obviously what they are going for. It's so ridiculous, if companies want their models to look unhuman and unhealthy, then they should just forgo using people as models and friggin' use robots to walk down their catwalks, thats pretty much what they are going for! I detest this. It's also quite ridiculous because they are marketing to normal-sized women, not other models.. Even if fashion is supposed to be some sort of art or a sort of escapism for the average person, there still has to be some level of reality, and if there is no room for it, why even bother having models..
