Default Vegas, Baby! (Who's been, and what should we do?)

Well, the hubby and I are FINALLY getting out of town for a vacation! We're going to Vegas for almost a week in November. What should we do, where should we go, what should we see, and where should we eat?

The only thinks we have on our plate so far are:

a Vegas showgirl Spectacular
Mystere by Cirque du Soleil
Hoover Dam
the Nuclear Testing Museum (we're physicists -- this is the highlight of our trip!)
We want to go to at least one SPECTACULAR restaurant.

So where are the best buffets? The best restaurants? The best attractions? We're staying in the center of the Strip at the Planet Hollywood.

Rent a car (car rentals are SO cheap in Vegas) and take a ride out to Red Rocks National Park or Death Valley or Valley of Fire. The area outside of Las Vegas is one of the most beautiful parts of the country, IMO:

My favorite restaurant on the strip is Sensi at Bellagio. Their buffet is also great.

My husband and I went to see the blueman group it was really fun! We also went to one of those knights of the round table shows- the one with no utensils and joust and all that- it was great.

Go to I think it's Cesar's palace with the huge mall inside? I had a blast there as well, just looking at all the stores and getting some lunch

And the brunch at Caesar's Palace is outstanding. As a matter of fact it is almost impossible to get a bad meal in Las Vegas and prices go from really cheap to really expensive.

If you're going to be out there November 17 or 18th - rent a car and take a night drive to Lake Mead. Watch the Leonids meteor shower - one of the year's best for natural fireworks in the sky.

I second the drive to Red Rocks during the day.

If you like the Beatles music, their show Love at the Mirage (another Cirque du Soleil show) is fabulous. Blue Man Group at the Luxor is fun too.

If you like seafood, the Rio (off the strip) has a wonderful seafood buffet.

Have fun!

Fremont St. has nightly shows on a huge over head screen. I think the buffet at Sam's Town is awesome!!! Fountains at Bellagio at night are spectacular. If you like crepes, go the to Paris, across from the buffet is "le crepire" fabulous!!!!! I agree that Red Rock is beautiful, the Excalibur has the knights of the red table show, my daughter really enjoys it. Harrah's or maybe Imperial Palace (not sure which) has celebrity impersonator dealers. Have fun!!!! Be ready to walk everywhere!!

Buy a 3 day pass for the monorail that travels up and down the strip. That is the best way to go from casino to casino and check out what each has to offer. We went to see Cher last year. It was a great show. We have to go back out the end of April into May for a wedding at the Wynn. Also check out the lion exhibit at the MGM Grand. Thats where we stay. It is a huge hotel.

Ah.. I was just there last week =) You should go buy tickets to the price is right show that is hosted in Bally's. The people I went to Vegas with got 2 tickets for 50 bucks you should search online to get a better price maybe. Also while I was staying at Bally's I found this slot machine it was super fun it was the wizards of oz machine a lot of people play that and sometime it is hard to get a seat =( You should also watch the water show and the pirate show they have. You can see it when you walk along the strip. The water show is so beautiful at night. They play music and the water show goes along with the song.

My advice to anyone who goes to Vegas is arrive at night. During the day it is kind of a disappointing place. At night, it looks a lot better.

The Red Rocks for sure is well worth the short drive and a good place to hike. Further along that road is a ranch.....name not coming to me that Hugh Hefner owned and now it is open to the public. You can go on horse trail rides there as well.....which I didn't get a chance to but my sister did on another trip. Last time we were in Vegas we stayed at the Bellagio and had a room on the strip side with the fountains....it was quite nice. We eloped to Vegas 15 years ago and stayed at Bally's that time......I would have preferred to stay there again but my beloved thinks that newer and more expensive is better.....I think it depends on what you're looking for.

We rented a car the last time and went to Red Rock Canyon and also to the Grand Canyon. Next time I want to do the helicopter ride from Vegas to the Grand Canyon. I've heard it's worth every penny.

Have fun!
