Default Joined a Running Club and Doing a 5K Saturday!

Im excited. I found a local running club (disclaimer: I dont run yet, haha). I paid $10 for a year's membership. It's really cool - they hold monthly 5ks that only cost $5 to enter. I'm signed up for the Halloween one.

They also email the club members through Facebook(I think there's only 17 of us) and give away free entries to other local races, first come first serve. I've already gotten notices of about 4 race entries already, and it's only been a couple of weeks.

I decided to grab one of the free entries for this weekend. It's a costume 5K, which will be interesting. So far the "easiest" costume I've heard suggested for me is getting a retro jogging suit and maybe an Afro wig. Not sure what I want to dress up as though....

But yay! I love doing 5Ks. It's just such an exciting feeling to finish, and do better sometimes.

That sounds like so much fun! I wish there was something like that going on where I live. Have a good run!

I've always been kind of scared of running. What made you get into it?

I'm so totally jealous! That sounds like such a kick @$$ club I wish they had one around here! $10 is a crazy bargain, too.

Good luck on your 5ks! xoxo

I don't do more than some jogging part of the way yet. I think I got into 5ks because of a book called "You Don't Have to be Thin to Win" by Judy Molnar (you can get it used on Amazon for a penny plus shipping). It's just a book about how she got into 5ks and other races to lose weight. So far I have done something like 8 5ks and a half marathon

And thanks! It really is an awesome little club.

That's so great! Good for you! I started running about 6 months ago (and was really worried about it) and now it's my favourite activity.

Having a club to run with sounds like a fantastic motivator.

Go out anyways, even if you have a scratchy throat, you'll feel better, even if you just start with walking a bit...

That running club sounds amazing! I am a newbie to running (towards the end of Couch to 5K) and am just getting into looking at 5K races to enter. I think having the support of the other runners in the club would be such a great thing. Enjoy!!
