Default Help! Walking Exercise CD Pros and Cons?

I've never used a walking CD nor do I know anyone who knows anything about them or has used them either. I would like to understand how this CD would be beneficial since we all know how to walk. Are there instructions about the walking pace, conditioning, etc, if so can you describe what type of activities you are instructed to do while walking around a neighborhood? What is the intensity? Is someone instructing the whole time you are walking or is there music? Are the walking instructions pretty much useless or very helpful? Do you use it frequently? If yes, is one better than the others? I know there are a lot of questions here, but I would like to hear your comments about what you liked or dislike about the walking CD before I run out and buy one. Thanks for all responses.

Well not sure if this will help you I have/do use walking DVD's on the days when the weather is not condusive to being outdoors. I still get in a good cardio workout for 60min. There is also the C25K downloads that people put in there iPods to help them get off the couch and run outside. As far as intensity I like to warm up (either with DVD or on walk/run for appox 5min) then kick it up to high gear and keep my target heart rate up for 50-60min. For beginers it could mean just moving your arms as you walk for more fit folks it could mean a light jog. But no matter what you do you will see the benefits by just moving briskly or the best you can and increase the intensity at regular intervals

not sure that helps

I think the best thing about the walking dvds is that it takes away any excuse I have to skip a walk! It's really kind of being lead through a low-impact workout - stepping, marching. I use Leslie Sansone's videos and she has a leads you through one, two, three mile segments. The latest one I bought she also uses the exercise band to do some arm work during the walk. There is background music but she is always letting you know which steps come next. I even enjoy her banter; she comes off as quite sincere and postive.

Your local library might even have a copy!

Thanks Nancy and Millie for your response.. It sounds like both of you have an indoor TV walking DVD and have had positive experience with this version.
I think I am looking more for a walking CD that I could download to an an Ipod to walk outdoors around my neighborhod. Many times when I walk I don't seem to push myself and it ends up being more like a stroll that is why I'm curious about how these cds work and are they any good. Any others who have comments about walking CDs I would sure like to hear. Thanks CJ

Hi CJ,

Try "YOU - On a Walk"

It is made by the "YOU on a diet" creators. The program has both messages and music for outdoor walking.
